Elite / Frontier Getting a Nuke

Is is possible to get hold of a Nuke on its own, without also getting a Transmission Jammer? I ask because I'm trying to do the Turner's Quest mission.

The first time I tried I got attacked loads, but didn't mind really, especially as the Quest is a powerful ship. Once I reached the destination my PC crashed.

The second time I made sure I had a Nuke and Jammer, and reached the site with no trouble at all. Destroyed the satellite, collected the flight recorder, took some photos, but then my PC crashed again.

(It doesn't "crash" per sé...a damn StickyKeys popup keeps appearing when I press SHIFT several times, and I keep forgetting to disable it. Once it's up I can't get FFED3D back, so have to End the Program. Have disabled StickyKeys now.)

Anyway, do I really *need* the Nuke and Jammer? *Must* the satellite be destroyed in order to complete the mission, or is the only result of not jamming/destroying it the waves of enemies?

If you don't have the jammer you get the INRA chappies attacking you non stop, making the game almost unplayable and very frustrating.

The sticky keys thing is windows being a pain in the. ....you'll have to just be a bit gentler in the keys, unless someone knows how to turn it off.

I've turned sticky keys off, and yes, I could save more, though it takes away from the personal challenge for me sometimes, doing that. Plus I don't really mind the wave after wave of baddies, because I handled them okay in the Quest.

No, I really just wanted to know if it's absolutely necessary to take out the satellite? Does the hassle from the INRA chappies stop once I get back to Alioth, or does it persist for the rest of my "in game life", in which case yeah, I'll destroy the satellite. ;)

The waves of enemies might not be all that difficult, but they do pose a problem - you won't be able to actually get anywhere if you're continuously pulled out of stardreamer by attackers.

First time, without the Jammer and Nuke, I made it to the destination without any more trouble than if I was in an Anarchic system really. Wouldn't want it all the time throughout the rest of the game, mind you.

Anyway, I'll try the mission again using both methods and see how I get on...

As I understand it, if you fail to take out a satellite on any mission, you will get hounded by attacking ships for ever. This would get a bit tedious, after a while

Speaking of which, the traffic/pirate density should really drop to zero rather quickly once you leave the known space - something to do in E4.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. I'll stick with doing the mission with the Jammer and Nuke then! ;)

Forgot to take out the satellite in Polaris...see what you mean about the hassle you get in every single system!!

Well, completed the Mycoid missions finally...that was fun. Have had a few software failures lately, which I think might be down to the whole issue of the Thargoid vessel having a bug with the cargo capacity, (and also my greed at trying to save as much of that space as possible).

The Mycoid missions are pretty much the only ones I've done, so I think I might start again, paying more attention to the journals and newspapers and trying to do more of the missions.
