Getting control of the Collectors

OK. I bet I am not the only one that has accidentally launched a collector limpet when I wanted a prospector limpet. Did it twice on my last mining expedition and it cost me a probe of a rock that was almost certain to have been core.

Here is my solution.
I have removed the Collector Limpet from all Fire Groups so it is not on the joy stick and instead used a dedicated second key "M" on my CP-48 external keyboard to set off the collectors.

Manual says this should work but it doesn't.

This had the added benefit of reducing my Fire Groups from 5 to just 3 making everything easier and hopefully preventing future useless collector limpets.

YMMV
Enjoy

FWIW I always put certain weapons/components on the same fire button regardless of the ship.

Example: Lasers. Always fire button 1

As for prospectors, always fire button 1; collectors always fire button 2.

Organize fire groups into a logical progression, then muscle memory prevents misfiring.

I got it to work for me.
I also like some logical arrangement.
Went into SETTINGS> CONTROLS and set FB2 on the Joystick to Cycle Next Fire Group.
Assigned alternate Fire Button "M" to the FB2 slot.
Now have 3 Fire Groups.
FG 1 FB 1 Prospector Limpet controller and Detailed Surface Scanner. (Limpet controller won't work in the DSS Mode)
FG 1 FB 2 ALT PWA, DLS, Comp Scanner, Discovery Scanner. These all work only in different modes or are instantaneous verses HOLD to charge.
FG 2 FB 1 my Three Multi cannons Turrets in Target only, and the SSDL taking advantage of the different modes.
FG 2 FB 2 ALT SCL I will be better able I hope to stay on target while I load the charge since my right hand will be aiming and the left hand will be charging.
FG 3 FB 1 Abrasion Blaster
FG 3 FB 2 ALT Collector Limpets

Now off to my Mining Location and see how it works.
