Getting credit for scan jobs I haven't done?

I've had some strange stuff happening with scanning jobs. Not that I'm complaining, mind you.

My first strange happening was when I went down to the planet, landed, got out my SRV, and was awarded credit. I have no idea why. I didn't scan anything.

My second was when I entered the system and received credit.

I'm new to scanning missions (and the game in general). Any idea why this is happening?

I've only been doing the solo for the most part. Unsure if I can hang online. I'm not even sure what that's like.

Oh, I think I know what happened. If ANYONE scans an outpost near your scan target, it seems to count for anyone in the area. You can still do yours, and get data from the points, though. (But sometimes, you can get illegal actions for scanning, or aggro the base, so take it where you can get it!)

That's been happening at least since 2.2. I first encountered it at the Guardian sites last year. I'm a little surprised they haven't fixed it.

I've done a lot of scanning missions, but in solo, perhaps that's why I haven't seen this phenomenon. The other and more well known of course is that when you complete one scan job for any mission giver, you complete all scan jobs for THAT mission giver. I've never seen it happen that you don't even have to do a single scan. Must be what the guys say, in open, you registered someone else's scan. Seems this bug is wider ranging than I imagined.

Nah, we're just all good guys, running ship-com-based bittorrents with all our scan data, that's why it completes for everyone.

I think it's you get credit for being close to some one else scanning and completing the mission, i didn't experience this in solo, only open while I Was at quince farming imperial rank it confused me as well for a while

This is indeed an annoying design flaw. It concerns both planetary scan jobs (the non-conflict kind) and passenger missions.
The game clears all missions with destinations nearby when you complete one.
The fact it doesn't work the same on war-time scan missions and covert peace-time scan missions sort of shows that this is a weird design flaw Frontier has chosen. Why, I have no idea. They want to give lazy cheaters more options? Something that's just undermining the community and causing the majority to look for alternatives to Elite.
