Getting fed up with this gaming mechanic.

I'm in a dbs going into a station, just about to enter the letterbox.

A security vessel collides with me and kills me.[mad]

This happens all to often.

Why are the security ships flying directly across the letterbox? Shouldn't they just fly around it?

I don't know... I've never been rammed by security before. Would too like to see some video of the event, I'm curious how the ships are positioned.

its probably because you are docking way too slow and letting the NPCs ram you.

Nope. Going in at about 100, you know, the speedlimit.

But that's not the issue, it's the security vessels flying across the letterbox.

It's ok if you're in a Conda, not so good in a DBS.

I have been fuzz buzzed and bumped too... normally when I am just over the speed limit so they earn their petty little fines! It is an agenda, I'm sure of it.

I was cruising through the letter box having a smoke
Wound the window down and threw the butt out
The Feds saw me do that and fined me 60 credits

:p

100 is pretty slow. Try to dock a higher speed; I never have a problem with getting hit by NPCs unless I stick to the same spot for too long.

Mostly the security seem to circle around, well away from the letterbox. If they're circling on a route that crosses the letter box then I'd file a bug report for that station since the co-ordinates might be out a little. On the other hand, they do come across when they're trying to scan you - if you get scanned be very careful with movements as they come right close.

Awww didums!!!:D

I can honestly say this has never happened to me! Never even had a collision, let alone been destroyed & I use m/cs so I spend half my in-game time docking!

EDIT - As Twattle:p says, speed could well be the key..as I usually dock under full boost from the moment of disengage to through the slot!

Seems to happen to some people a lot, and not at all to others.

I'm always surprised by these occurrences, because they never happen to me. Same as with the people who say they get rammed by NPCs who are scanning them. Nope, don't recall it happening once.

Why it happens to some people and not others, i'm mystified, at the end of the day, the AI code doesn't change. So it must be some other factor. AFAIK, ships are not a deciding factor. Maybe it depends on how people fly?

I am constantly being rammed by security in front of stations (and scanning pirates at REZs for that matter), that is the only reason why I have shields on my Cutter... Ram... 30,000 repair bill... Ram 60,000 repair bill...
And just as I'm accelerating for supercruise... Ram.... Boom... 1 Week, 4200 CR Murder Bounty for Reckless flying... DAFAQ?

I can categorically state I have encountered this problem multiple times since Horizons released. Before that, I was out of the bubble since 1.4, so I can't say whether or not this problem existed before then.

Were you speeding, ie going over 100 km per hour? if so then they will try and ram you so you get fined at the very least. It usually happens to me in my Anaconda on the way out of a station. To avoid it I go as fast as possible in a straight line. If I try and turn towards my jump point I usually get rammed. In an Anaconda they bounce off the ship and they take the damage. [big grin] I get a 100 cr fine.

So next time I see one of these threads I should say ''Stop having a face you just want to ram''?

I can confirm this.

I'm in a cobra, about to go thru the letterbox, doing 98.

Im guessing it came from below me, but WHAMMO! something small hit me and it hit me hard! shields almost gone, no hull damage....

Not happy

To get killed outright by a small security vessel ram, you must have shields off and have no armour - are you running silent?

This has never happened to me in a year and a half.

Definitely, on at least 10 occasions, while flying my anaconda towards the station have heard the familiar sound of a Viper on full-chat screaming towards me to perform their customary hull-resonance scan and then 'CLANG'

As the law slams into the side of the ship .... about a week ago i'd just come out of a RES and the station being only a minutes trip from the ring my shields weren't back online..... the Fed 'scanning' me cost me about 25% hull damage such was the rate he hit
