Getting Flashes in Rift

The last few days I've been getting bright flashes in the Rift, about 2-3 a minute, while out exploring. It's very annoying and usually happens while I'm glancing around. It'a kind of a peripheral vision thing, like black squares on planets (which seem to have gone away, btw). They don't fill up the whole view, and appear to be artifacts of part of the HUD, or maybe parts of the ship. I think I can sometime see text and etc. Anyway, I didn't see anything about this in the first few pages of this forum and was wondering if others are experiencing it and if there's anything I can do about it. Thanks.

Hope you not getting them when out of the game, flashes like that are a symptom of detached retina. For what it is worth my Rift does not give any problems like that. What is your setup? Graphic driver updated? Settings? Etc.

No, just in game, thankfully.

4790k 1080 16GB Win7 and drivers should be fairly up to date. Settings are probably VR Low with a few things tweaked higher. Using OTT for 1.5PPD. Use the desktop launcher. No mods.

I should probably try another game and see if it happens again.

Vr low with a 1080? Hmmmm why? :(
It's been so long I'm not sure what the settings are. I think I start VR Low and then adjust things to med or high, but probably not ultra (except maybe shadows). And I am doing the 1.5 HMD quality (via OTT) and have ASW disabled because I hate seeing glitches in the HUD. And I may have AA set, but I could just be remembering from my monitor days, where it did make a difference. Anyway, not getting any stuttering, and I could be remembering lowering settings trying to get rid of that when it was an issue. [noob]

Btw, these flashes are like fleeting images and just one frame so hard to catch any detail by eye.

Oh fair enough, I don't mind asw too much so have it turned on auto which undoubtedly let's me run higher settings without judder then your 100% pure 90fps setup.
It mainly only kicks in in Res sites and stations for me so I don't mind too much.
Still getting 90 on planet surfaces all ultra expect low ambient occlusion and hmd to 1.75. ss at 1.0. i7 2600k @ 4.7 and gtx 1080ti with a mild oc :) (+115 core + 450 memory

I get white flashes too. Maybe it's some sort of MK Ultra or perhaps subliminal advertising of some description? :p

I also see this on the odd occasion - it’s like getting a brief flash of another cockpit or bit of station geometry, but rotated and offset from the current view. I had considered submitting a bug report but it’s not exactly easily reproducible or capturable on video recording software.

Also, when exiting the game I have occasionally seen a large chunk of planet surface off to one side, when the screen goes black - I wonder if this is related? It’s like a random frame from my play session getting burped out at the last moment.

OP. When I upgraded my CPU, RAM and mobo, I checked my old rig and noticed some of the CPU pins were lose/slightly bent. Don't know if that was the cause, but after changing hardware, the problem went away.

After reporting this problem, I've only had 1-3 flashes per day (vs. 1-3 per minute for a couple of days). I didn't change anything other than location. I thought it may have been related to orbit lines, which I had turned on while out exploring, but that didn't make a difference back in the bubble. I almost feel disappointed because I don't know what was causing it.

I also switched to VR Ultra with a few tweaks (why do they set SS to 1.25 and HMD to 1?). I was surprised to see that I did have a lot of settings set to low before that. Anyway, unlike with a monitor, I didn't really notice much of a visual difference - other than a lot more smoke. Even switching back and forth between VR Low and VR Ultra. Even the shadows looked similar, but I didn't try in various locations - just outside a station. The FPS seems fine for normal play. Not tried a RES yet.

I got my Rift yesterday (first VR!) and got the same issue. Some other image or geometry, mostly inside a station I think, flashes on screen. It almost turns the game into some kind of space horror, as the flashes reminds me of the kind of effects used in movies like Event Horizon...
Haven't toyed much with the graphic settings so far. I am running an overclocked i5-2500k and a 1060 6Gb, so I am using the options that Geforce Experience recommended for now. Will try the next few days to change graphics some and see if that helps?
The little flying around I did was awe inspiring, but I did not play much due to the space madness kicking in. Which is a bummer, as I bought the Rift primarily to play Elite :/

EDIT: Well, day two and it's gone. No flashes. No idea if it had to do with me just restarting my computer or if turning on the Oculus Beta did it. It's fixed, so if anyone got the same problem and are not running the beta, it might help?
EDIT2: And there it is back. No idea what has changed.
