Newcomer / Intro Getting frustrated with 'Route Plotting Failed'

Hi guys .. I'm a newbie, so I'm sorry if this is a stupid question.
I am currently in the Eranin System and am trying to travel to the Nang Ta-Khian system to purchase the Cobra mkIII.
It is 12ly away, and no matter what I do , I cant seem to plot a route to it. I have the usual stars selected so I can fuel scoop on the way.. but to no avail.
Any suggestions?
I'm was so excited ... will be my 1st ship upgrade .. IF I can get there ;)

turn the filters off, I think from the pick the destination is not a star you have showing, so it is filtered out, so the route plotter can't see it to plot to it.

Edit - or the last jump with the filter on may be more than your current range. Hopefully with a full tank you can do a couple of jumps without sweating.

See if that works.

You need to upgrade your Frame Shift Drive or reduce weight on your ship. You have a jump range of 6.2 light years, which is terrible. I don't know if you're underclassing your FSD but never do that, it doesn't work.

Yeah, what class is your fsd? It looks like you might still have the stock 2E FSD - you may want to upgrade that to a 2B or even 2A - either of those should give you enough range to make that trip in one jump

I was avoiding spending $$ on the sidewinder cause I figured I wont be in it much longer ?

STD I assume .. I havent upgraded

You can always sell back the FSD and downgrade to E before you sell the ship.

This. You can sell modules at the same price you bought them for. Just remember to sell all valuable modules befor selling the ship itself, as - weirdly - the 10% penalty for selling a ship applies to all equipped modules, too.

Thanks for all the advice guys .. I'll try upgrading the fsd ...
Man, this game is so different to the original elite i loved in the 80s lol

I got my Cobra .. bought back my 2C FSD...
But .. I'm now showing a jump range on this cobra as: 2.00/2.8/2.22LY ???
Oops what have i done wrong?

you downsized your FSD, this is what happens

the 2C was fine for the smaller ship, not to fit in the cobra

you need the bigger ones now, i think a 4 its standard

If the station you are in doesn't have a 4E or better drive (that you can afford) a trick is to go to module storage in outfitting, select store multiples, and the select the FSD. This will replace the drive with the stock (4E) even if you can't get it at that station. This would give you a reasonable jump range.

Incidentally there's some tricks you can use with a Stock Sidewinder to get to places beyond the jump range:
1. Store all non-esential modules, inc. guns - gives a much better jump range - then get them transferred to your new position - As the stock modules are loans they have no value so the transfer cost for them is always 100Cr each.
2. Use the SRV (Horizons only) to collect 'Jumponium' components - materials that improve your (one off) jump range - Look in RH panel/ Inventory/ Synthesis/ FSD Injection to see what is required.

One day I might just see how far I can get with a stock sidewinder :D

The Cobra MkIII comes already fitted with a 4E FSD.
The ship has an Unladen Jump Range of 10.46 ly

In simple terms, if you want a better FSD keep the number but change the letter.

So get 4D, 4C, 4B, 4A.

At this early stage don't make life complicated by comparing the benefits of 3C with 4D etc etc.
Just enjoy the game.

Until you know of a genuine reason to undersize a module (there are a few, but they are all a pretty advanced), NEVER use an undersized module (the number not the letter), always fit the biggest thing you can fit.
The Letter is the thing you have a choice over (except weapons)

LOL ok I admit it ... Im an idiot.
The station did not have a 4E to sell . I had no option but to swap the cobra for and adder... then swap back for the cobra again. That was the only way to get the 4E back.
Lost a chitload of credits doing it,,, but wow.. the cobra is awesome ;)

You missed the tip earlier in the thread:

Just store the 2C FSD - the game automatically fits a 4E in the slot (even if their outfitting doesn't list one for sale) - then sell the stored 2C FSD.

You’re at the fun starting stage of the game—when everything is a learning experience. Savor it. Once it’s gone it never comes back.

And keep the great attitude. That’ll get you far.

Welcome to the game!
