I just read a post about newbies getting out of dodge asap and going at least 120LY away from starting system. My question is can I upgrade my sidey with a much better jump drive so I go more that 7.6LY with full cargo? I have 8 cargo now and plan to put in the other 2 along the way as my money goes up. 7,6LY at a jump will take a long time to go 120Ly though. If I can upgrade, what is the best drive to get that will fit?

Best FSD for a Sidey is a 2A FSD which will give a Sidewinder with 8t cargo ~14.8ly jumprange.

You can get blown up everywhere. The reason why one should leave the starter area early is there tends to be quite more PvP (the bad sort, where people try to take out newbs). NPCs are scattered around habitated space equally, they are the same wherever you go (e.g. no Lvl20-25 and Lvl26-30 Areas as in other MMOs). So a quiet habitated system is usualy the safest spot to start a new carreer and learn how things work.

These are the places where you mostly hear of people getting ganked... of course you could play solo or join a PvE group and play in that, but it depends whether or not you really want to leave all PvP behind, or just avoid the ganking.

ty. not interested in pvp, at least for quite awhile. I like t radikng and maybe mining eventually. just trying to get 100k so I can get hauler. mostly been starting over after death.I know it is part of game but......
Elite is a long-haul kind of a game. Maybe you are trying to get to the next step too quickly so my advice would be to take your time. For example I took it slow in the beginning and I think I took 2-3 weeks flying the Sidewinder every day until I managed to save 500K CR then I purchased a Cobra. I got there by doing a combination of bounty hunting, smuggling and taking missions.
One tip. First thing to do is replace the basic discovery scanner and install an extra 2T of cargo space. It's not going to help you trading much but will open up many more missions for you to take.
Don't underestimate the Sidewinder either, it's a great little ship capable of lots of different careers including combat.

i just started last week and in solo mode using the SW found a astroid belt where many bounties could be had....i got 130k in one night of bounties. bought the adder and now im off
