Newcomer / Intro Getting rank for passenger missions?

I'd really like to do some passenger missions; they seem lucrative, and I can do them while I do other errands. But every passenger mission at every port is insanely high rank. Is this just how it works? I have to rank up before I can do these missions? Or am I just rolling badly for passenger missions? Or are there some systems or ports that have more entry-level passenger missions on offer?

Thanks!

What do you mean by "rank" - trading or exploration rank like tycoon or elite, or reputation requirements like friendly and allied?

If the former, you can ignore it at your own peril, which isn't that much or passenger missions (there's hardly any enemy ships coming after you).
If it's reputation, then there are also low level passenger missions, but (as with other low rep missions) they pay much less. But yes, in this case as in many others, it pays to stick around a port or at least an area for some time and rep up with the local factions. Once you're allied, you'll also find other missions in the 7 figure range.

When you do get access to higher value passenger missions check the details carefully they can involve trips to very distant stars or long cruises when you arrive at the destination star.

There are also of course the passengers as well to be concerned about some will want you to buy things for them or take side trips others will be wanted criminals who if detected on your ship by a scan will cause you to become wanted and shot at and then of course there are the nervous ones that will refuse to pay if you damage your ship or get scanned.
