How do you get started in FE/FFE?

In FFE I normally strip my ship bare, get as much medical supplies as I can then do a few medical runs from Gateway to Soholia without getting blasted to pieces. I then nip over to the Sol system and start trading there until I can get a permit and ship capable of delivering Luxury Goods to Van Mannens Star. Lovely bit of profit there!

When I have enough money I then start building my armoury so I can up a few kills and start some of the Hand Coded Missions ready for the Mic Turner/Argents quest missions.

So how about you guys and girls? what's your top way of getting started?

Same start as you, but i find the profits are larger running slaves and narcotics from Vequess to Facece. There are frequently BBS messages offering 2x the going rate for either or both of these.
You can also (if you are so inclined) up your Imperial rating taking courier missions back and forth.

I believe this to be the fastest way to raise any military rating as well as the best moneyspinner in the galaxy.

Occasionally a trip is needed back to Alioth to buy a new ship if you aren't quite ready for a Courier yet.

I've noticed as well the higher level of Military Missions between Vequess & Facece. slightly more dangerous route whan you've only got a small ship. When I have a ship with a Military Drive you can do a triange of deliveries between Vequess, Facece & Sohoa to really get the ranking upp. and as you say slaves etc. between them as well.

In FE2 I tend to load up the start position that gives you the Cobra MKIII. That way I can strip it and sell it for something a bit smaller, but with still enough room to carry a fair bit of cargo. (Or do I just strip it and use the free-space to start trading? I can't remember.) But I certainly don't start with the one that gives you a crappy little ship with your 100 credits.)

For FFE I tend to sell everything I can in the Saker and stock up on meds to take to Soholia. I do that until I can afford a Class 2 MD and then go to Tau Ceti (radioactives aren't illegal there and they have just as many Fed Mil missions as at Sol).

I then do the boring delivery missions for the feds, adding the best cargo for each destination. If I'm going to a non-fed system I'll have a look at their illegals; van Maanerns (or whatever it's called!) is the best for the luxury goods. Do that until my rating creeps up a little, and then trade for a better ship - I try to go up in increments rather than waiting for the Asp.

Once I've got the Asp (doesn't usually take very long, perhaps 6 months if I'm lucky with the "Urgently Required" BBS messages), I go for my kills. I have to confess, I have been guilty of parking in front of an Imperial space station and shooting at the police as they exit :p

Once I get to competent, I go for trading. I try to get as much money as I can for the Argent's Quest mission. After that, well I haven't got that far yet!!

I am the same as most for FFE, I start on earth and do boring trade runs between Sol and Barnard Star until a package delivery comes up for Van Maanens which gives me the permit then I switch to Luxury Goods which are illegal but you don't get fined. This builds my money up quickly and I trade up in ships until I get a ship I want then I go for a wander.

I have a remarkably similar strategy; luxury goods and liquor to Barnard's, robots and computers to Sol. The only difference is that I don't take luxuries to the Guardians. My conscience wouldn't allow me ;)

Think of those poor religious nutters in there caves bashing them selves with bits of wood and the suchlike, pining for a little bit of luxury! :D

It's your civic duty to smuggle luxury goods in for them!!

I've just remembered the best moneyspinner in Frontier. Although i suppose it would have to be classed as an exploit.

There was an Imperial system called Cemiess, far in the western reaches of the Empire. They would pay you 3000 credits a ton to take away narcotics.

Cemiess Trader: Here you are, commander. There's 350 tonnes of narcotics and 1.1 million credits. Have a nice day!
Commander Turwhitt: Yes....er.. I'll try!

I am currently sitting in Mackenzie relay in Cemiess -2-2...

Where are these Narcotics????

You've bought them all!

I justify it by noticing that they accept computers but not robots ! Talk about double standards ! Plus I think that secretly there are some in that system who yearn for a few luxury goods and also the Gaurdians probably sell on confiscated Luxuries at a huge profit so everyone ends up being happy ! :D
