Giant Locusts

The Giant Locusts are not ginormous but big enough for humans to hold in their hands like cats or chickens. Now to house Giant Locusts we need like smaller versions of aviaries, also they shouldn't be able to escape because they're insects and not as strong as the dinosaurs and flying reptiles. And we would also need smaller hatcheries to incubate and release them.

I think the giant locusts would be better utilised not as a viewable attraction, but as a natural disaster and threat to our parks.

If a swarm of giant locusts were to make landfall on our parks, they could completely eat up a randomised selection of paleo-botanical plants such as Tall Nut and Ground Fiber before going away. They can also be a threat to humans as well meaning that it’s highly recommended to open Emergency Shelters and because of this no staff vehicle can safely travel until the swarm goes away.

Now I'm torn up about how I want them to be in the game. Having them as live bait for the flying reptiles is a great idea and having them as a new park disaster is also great but I still want to be able to interact with them like we do with the dinosaurs. You know, locking on to them and going wherever they go until they go into the trees?

I could get behind this being a disaster, it would be pretty unique. Like they swoop in and devour all your vegetation so your herbivores get really upset and start to starve. Only way to make this feasible though is if Frontier also locks your paleobotany menu so that you can't just immediately plant more down. Either that or the locusts will be extremely unique in that the player's actions can actually prolong the catastrophe. For example, if you start painting new vegetation the locusts will continue to decimate it all so long as there is some to eat. This would discourage the player from replacing it until the locusts have moved on and well past the point your herbivores are ready to scream bloody murder and either starve or try to break out.

I really love this idea, diversifies our disaster opportunities.

Thank you!

Regarding the feasibility, I was thinking exactly the same for latter. If players (instinctively) try and replace the destroyed paleo-vegetation while the locusts are still in their parks, the longer the swarm will stay and will cause more harm. The locusts won’t go until the randomly selected prehistoric plants are gone.

The disaster idea I kind of disagree on because I find it hard to imagine how they could possibly do it.

On an informative note, it is worth noting that the locusts themselves are prehistoric. Dr. Sattler confirms they are Cretaceous strains, specifically.

So because of that, they could maybe be some kind of an attraction should they be added in. However, the idea I do tend to favor the most is some kind of live bait where one entity is just one single locust, rather than like an entire swarm of them for example.

I'm pretty sure she said they have Cretaceous DNA/Genes (said it twice even), which is a little more open ended, sort of suggests a modern species with ancient genes tossed in, or an amalgam of various Cretaceous species.

The fact Grant doesn't even guess, just says he doesn't know what it is, also might suggest it's not pure. (Assuming Hollywood logic)

I am pretty sure they said they are regular locusts, but have been gene spliced with some prehistoric DNA. As always much is left up for interpretation what that even means, but that is how they do things nowadays.
