Hardware & Technical Gigabyte ga-970a-ds3p

I'm looking to buy a new computer.

My current workhorse is over 7 years old now. It's been very reliable, but had more than it fare share of new parts. PSU, Fans, Memory, HD and so on.

I've found a machine whose specs appeal to be. It has an AMD Bulldozer FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Processor.

The mother board is GIGABYTE GA-970A-DS3P

I've been doing some searches and a number of reports have come of this board breaking down after a year or less.

Does anyone have any information of this board?

Details of what has broken in these reports are sketchy, but I get the feeling the PSU cooling is inadequate.

Does anyone have any experience on upgrading the cooling?

Appreciate some comments.

AMD 8 core :(

You are better off with an i5 quad. I know this from harsh experience.

Appreciate the response, but I need the 8 cores.

My current machine is 4 core, 2.4 Ghz.

Actually, if you would, can you say what your harsh experiences were?

Simply put - the 8 core benched lower than the i5. I built it as a Steambox rig, made the mistake of not getting an Nvidia card lol - ended up selling it to a friend.

Thank you so much for your reply.

As I said, I need the 8 cores. I have already check quite a few performance sites and understand your point.

However, apart from the issue of 'performance, you don't seem to have had any problems with reliability or breakdowns and that is what I needed to know.

Just the work I do. A 2 seater sports car might go faster than a 4 seater GTI, but if you think you can handle 3 women at a time, the extra seats tend to come in handy.

Been looking around and can see the problems with Gigabyte are largely because the boards are so thin. Sad really, many of their specs are attractive.

A problem in a site like this are differences in pricing structure between the US and the UK. That makes asking in terms of expenditure, difficult. Suffice to say, I will pay the bucks for the bang

The review sites on the various boards are more than a little confusing. English doesn't seem to be the language of choice for most. But it seems I'll need to resort to those.

Thanks anyway.
