(gimballed) Beam lasers (vs other weapons)

Hi,

Currently I'm flying a Viper with 2x cannons and 2x gimballed multicannons - and I was thinking about subbing the MC for gimballed beam lasers.

They aren't cheap (will also need to buy a new reactor), so I thought I'd post here and ask if you have any experience with them, and if they're worth getting.

I need more lasers in my life, and I can't seem to find gimballed pulse lasers (not a big fan of burst).

Any insight in this would be greatly appreciated!

I always seem to find the gimbeled pulse lasers, they only cost like 6600 CR I think. Just keep going around to industrial or high tech stations and you will find some. I put two lasers and two multicannons myself. User lasers for shields cause they are good for that, Also I suggest using one laser as fixed because if enemies have anti gimballed systems it will be problematic.

Gimbaled beams are really inaccurate at long ranges.

Your viper doesn't have any energy weapons? That's bad news. Kinetic weapons don't do enough damage to shields. I use two gimbaled class 1 beam lasers on my cobra with two class 2 multi-canons. Best combo I've ever found. The beam lasers rip the face off my target's shield in no time and the multi's make relatively quick work of the hull.

If my aiming is pretty good, should I even consider gimballed lasers? Currently playing with 2 Beam lasers and 2 MCannons.

Gimballed lasers & multicannons on my viper. Everything is as good as you can get, power is the problem though & the 3 million cost for it all.

If you're aim is good and you're not going after sub systems then stick with fixed weapons. I only use my gimballed beam for subsystem work.

I use a triad of one class two and two class one gimballed beams on my Asp. They rip through shields very effectively, and are a handy backup to my multigun array for hull destruction. Range isn't brilliant, but effectiveness is hard to argue.

It's true, and especially for pvp I prefer fixed - but when it comes to targeting wanted cobras in an asteroid field I've found that gimbal is... well, certainly not the most difficult choice. If it's worth flying, it's worth flying it lazily! With fixed cannons I really want the 2ndary weapon to be gimballed though.

Cannons aren't half bad vs shields to be honest, I certainly don't notice huge problems taking down shields.

Anyway, thanks guys - made up my mind to spend a stockpile and get those beam lasers installed. Let's light some fires!
