Gimballed Weapons - Firing Groups

Hi folks,

Having a bit of a head scratching moment here.

I decided to refit my ship so that it has both multi cannons and a large cannon. My question is, do the gimballed weapons fire separately depending on their lock? For example, will my cannon fire if my multi cannons are firing, even if the target isn't in the cannon's firing arc?

Yes, they will.

The only exception to this is if your gimbals are on the target/lead indicator but they are blocked by your ship, they won't fire, but as soon as they lose the target/lead indicator, they'll just shoot straight forward. In other words, the only thing that will stop them shooting is your own ship being in the way.

If you have a target locked all weapons will fire if the target is in the firing arc of all the weapons. If one of your weapons can't point at the target (usually because of hardpoint placement and the position of the target) it wont fire, but that's unrelated to target lock. Most people bind fixed weapons and gimballed weapons to 2 different firing groups unless they only fire when both weapons are aligned with the targeting reticule because otherwise they'd be wasting a lot of fixed ammo.
