Give a chance for little people

Hi i just started to play Elite, and its a great game.. PvE PvP battles are awesome,2 fixed weapons sidewinders duel its just amazing. But one thing just sucks.. its a ship game balance,i mean its like every other mmorpg.. on the start you get a knife +1,and all you need to do its farm for a sword +10,but why you have system like this in Elite? is there any chance for lets say, cobra or eagle to fight fully fited with mana potions (shield cells)emp clipper? no there is no chance, but why? Why you just can make a balance in game where every ship meets they own role or propose?

Between the title, the first half of the OP, the second half of the OP, and each individual poster so far, I am completely lost.

I think the OP is upset that there is a progression of ships like an RPG instead of a broad range of equivalently tiered ships like a generic first person shooter.

Skill > Ship is only really true for the larger ships. In a practical setting, a vulture beats just about everything below an FDL. For that not to be the case, that vulture pilot would have to be very, very, very bad, or that cobra pilot needs to be pretty damn good. Everything FDL and above is a lot more skill based. Vulture's are absurdly powerful at combat.

The good news is combat isn't that one dimensional and the game itself has a lot more than combat. The skill > ship concept has actually very little practical application. Ships are actually pretty good at what they do in their own right (viper/clippers are fast, vulture/FDL can murder, etc). Smaller ships cost a lot (a lot) when you die in them, which makes them very, very, very valuable in my eyes.

Skill will take you so far. Gear will take a little further a little more painlessly.

I could take npc pythons in an eagle without losing a bar of shield. Thats positioning and knowing your ships advantages over the enemy ship.

PVP is always different as player pilots are better than npc pilots for the most part. However its still doable if the person in the eagle was a great pilot.

cobra vs python isnt overy bad if yu stay behind him. you have plenty of guns to take him down.

Pvp Eagle vs Phyton you will not brake a phyton shield bar if phyton pilot know how to use boost and flight assist off.

While I am all for balance between ships, I don't think that that necessarily means that an eagle should be able to take on a python. The two ships are completely different and meant for different things; one is an interceptor/ escort fighter adept at dogfighting and the other is a much larger, much heavier corvette chassis.

Skill should play a big role but a humvee should always fear an abrams. That's just how realistic differences in hardware manifest in the tactics of play.

Good Cobra pilot will nearly always beat a mediocre Python pilot, they also won't lose to even a v good Python pilot most of the time as the Cobra will just outrun the Python.
Decently skilled player in a decently kitted ship is very hard to kill at all if they don't want to hang about.
Worth noting that a good control setup (Hotas by preference) combined with a decent pc(or mac) and a good internet connection will play it's part also.
