Give me a reason to play this game

I want the activity that feels challenging and rewarding and is not something where i purposefully handicap myself to make it like that.

Also im not interested in exploration or mining because its extremely underdeveloped feature, id prefer to skip on that until they flesh it out... by a lot.

I'm not interested in grinding, be it trades or combat because the background simulation of the trademarket makes doesn't seem to work in any meaningfull way that would actually impact the world and combat AI is really bad and doesnt offer any challenge.

I would enjoy PvP but currently the atrotious instancing and p2p they use is ruining it for me.

I tried to see the appeal in the lore part of this game, but really theres nothing were to make it feel like a living breathing universe, and powerplay seems to be a waste of time.

Give me a reason to play this game...

Since none of the posts here so far seem to argue about the points i made in OP, would you care to explain why do YOU continue to play this game?

I can only speak for myself but it's simple: I'm having fun.

Your "points" above amount to "I do not like X, Y, Z" where they are all personal preferences. So it'd be like me arguing with you about what pizza toppings you prefer. Do you like pepperoni? I don't. I like black olives, do you? But, to stick with the pizza analogy: I am loving this pizza right now. So you're not. So what? Go do something else. Don't stand around outside the pizza shop you don't like telling all the passers-by "I do not like this pizza!" they'll all just think you're a bit in need of remedial parenting.

Edit: Shorter form - your complaints above amount to "I'd like the game if it was a lot different and was exactly what I like." Well, yeah. But that's a stupid thing to say, which is why this thread is not filled with awe-inspired comments about your amazing perception.

If you (the OP) has made up your mind you don't like that game, nothing we will say will change your mind. You have convinced yourself that it isn't the game for you, that is your choice and your decision, yours alone.

But to answer your question (this is actually more for those who have posted in support), I love this game for the freedom of allowing me to do what I want, when I want to, how I want to. If I want some quick gameplay, off to the neighbouring system for some bounty hunting. Or I might decided to do some trading for the slower pace (i.e. there is something on TV I want to half watch). Or I might decide to boost the local faction at the station I currently call home, or destabilise one of the minor factions there.

Elite: Dangerous is what you make of it, it doesn't hold your hand, it doesn't give you rewards for just turning up, it doesn't do the thinking for you!

There's literally no other modern spacesim games out there...

And id love to do all that which you mentioned if it felt like it mattered, if i could see the impact that does. It doesn't though. And i don't care about credits since theres nothing you can do with them apart buying bigger ships so you can earn them faster, until you get a anaconda which basically eliminates the only reasonable (yet boring) gameplay goal this game offers, which is getting better stuff.

Even the credit grind (be it trading or anything else) would be fine if the game actually offered any real threats. I cant find this game exiting because of disparity between risks and rewards you get.

Sorry OP :)

Hmm..well...here are some things and of course this is probably a waste of time...but I'm ok with it.

Since you can't find your own reason for playing...I'll give a short list of mine...but no peaking.

1. Space combat sim nut from way back...dating to the BBC version of this game
2. played every worthwhile pc space sim (purely opinion) from braben-bell,braben, chris Roberts. lucas arts. and a few others I don't recall off the top of my head
3. still go back to some occationally ...love the setting...love the flying....love the ships(mostly)
4. as one person said hes "having fun"
5. depth does not have to be created by the designers...they gave us the sand box to make our own stories...and I do just that when I'm not liking the material handed to me.

I did say short list...if its not fun don't play it...its a game meant to entertain and waste time...fun...not trying to run someone off...but seriously...if I ant having fun I either don't play it again or I take a break if it is something or a genre I like...even though it may seem like sarcasm or y advice...it truly is good advice...make your own reasons...a few examples:

be a bounty hunter ...chase down big game...wing up with your mates and chase down the truly nasty ones...

be a nasty griefer that picks on poor innocents and murders and pillages to unpresedented levels of bounty all over ...then the aforementioned types come a hunting

be an innocent t7 trader...gets jacked and killed by the middle guy...who then gets hunted by the first guy

or...anything else your imagination can take you

or be like Mal Reynolds...and aim to misbehave (loved that show and movie some guy has the song as a sig that's pretty cool)

Peace and prosperity by any means!!;)

What rewards would you like?

The current rewards you get are fine.

For example getting profit out of your treaderuns is completely good and potentially fun gameplay reward. What's bad is that you are never at risk at loosing money, bet it in sudden market changes, loosing your ship, loosing your cargo. What this does is makes the whole experience bland and boring...
