"Give me your cargo. I'M GONNA BOIL YOU UP"

I know you guys are getting tired of these threads, but this is just silly.

I recently retrofitted my type 7 for mining, and I only have limpets in my hold. I get scanned by two pirates in an asteroid belt who demand that I drop cargo. Since I have nothing other than the limpets I can't drop anything. Normally you'd think that they'd just be disappointed and fly away like they're supposed to do, right? Wrong.
They opened fire and I had to run, even though I had nothing in my hold other than limpets.

Do those somehow count as "tradable" cargo and therefor the ai thinks that they have some sort of value like normal cargo?

You can totally drop limpets.

Also there are even pirates out there who can't afford a scanner - so they will even attack you if you don't have any cargo space to begin with - because they can't know.

but my point is they both scanned me, and limpets aren't cargo. they're equipment. does the game still count them as a commodity because they take cargo space even though you get them in the munitions department?

They're still cargo and they can be sold.

Limpets are cargo.

And you can buy and sell them via munitions.
I'm sorry but that's just silly.

What's even more hysterical is that it seems that one of them used a hatch breaker limpet on me and stole 1 limpet.

this is just more proof that ai pirates need some work

IMO for the 'pirate' mechanic to be even remotely credible, as opposed to just another RNG roll of the dice between death or death, they need to scan and ask you to drop some of what they find from the scan. If they have no scanner then they need to ask for n tonnes of 'whatever you have in your hold' but as they are AI there is no reason for them not to have a scanner is there. The pirate just making the threat is about as shallow as the game play can get :( A good pirate is intent on getting the goods, they state clearly what you need to do to avoid having your ass blown away, do it and live another day. AI that can't handle that is just A, there is no I involved at all :)

Haha, man they are getting desperate. A limpet for a limpet :D Well, the AI/NPC need some love. In the mean time we can just "collect" easy credits. Something tells me that Sarahs revolutionary AI didnt work very well. :p Or I might be wrong....

That's hilarious :D

Now even beyond this general example here AI clearly needs improvement when it comes to interaction without weapons.
But I'd hope that a rare stupid pirate that steals a limpet with a limpet sticks around hahaha

In my case pirates have never attacked me for my limpets - they always deemed that too low value. Might be related to how desperate the pirate is (I mostly encounter them in high RES - so these guys are usually pretty fancy).

Apparently they don't see all! lol i love that line

I would love to reply with: "Oh yeah!? tell me the numbers of the lottery for tomorrow. Also, elections results for next year. And while at it, can you point me in the general direction to the nearest Earth Like Planet? Thanks!"

AFAIK the total Cargo Value (including Limpets) counts for them making the decision.

Problem is, Limpets also count (because they're regarded as Cargo) and larger Ships carry enough of them to easily trigger their "Awesome we want some!" event due to their sheer amount.

Have to say, though, that most NPCs attack for very little indeed.
And even if you dump Cargo (I tried during testing), they may not even be happy with 30tons Gold, 10tons Indite, 8tons Gallite, 5tons Bertrandite. Just because it's all based on an invisible "NPC actually demans xx% of your total Cargo value".

That value they never Transmit.

And last but not least, some Eagle NPC barely having 4tons of free Cargo space might not stop attacking until you i.e. drop as much as 20-50 tons if you're in a bigger Ship/have full Cargo hold.
It'll scoop a few tons and then fly away. Leaving all the rest for you to scoop back in :D

--------------
I guess it would be better if they made a very clear demand Drop 20tons of {Cargo in your Hold} and you're free to go! - then it'd be up to the CMDR to make the call based on reliable information.

This isn't so much a bug or glitch as much as it is just a feature that could be improved.

Right now it seems the pirates will basically attack you if you have any cargo at all. Would be better if they took your combat rank into account as well. So if pirates scan a harmless type-7 with 100 limpets, they attack because they think it's an easy kill. If pirates scan an elite type-7 with 200 limpets, they think its not worth the risk.

This feature is already implemented in the pirates to a degree, because if a pirate scans you and sees that you are deadly/elite often they will say, "Sorry, I thought you were someone else," or "Woah there big guy, I'm not hurting anyone," or something to that effect, basically implying that the pirate is intimidated by your ship.

If they could make it in the pirating script so they demand a certain amount of cargo and not make demands when you have only limpets on board it would be much more realistic. It could be like this. "Ahhh, the motherload". "Drop 10 gold in 15 sec or il boil you up". You drop 15 cargo exactly and then the script kicks in and say "Excellent, you live to see another day". "Bye" and the pirate jumps out. And if you dont drop 15 cargo it could make a new fresh threat like. It could be random. " I see you are a hard nut to crack". "Drop 10 gold in 5 sec or you are blown into the void". Yeah, and so on :)

Your sure it was AI and not the Code? It sounds very like them! ;)
