Give non-PVPers a reason to want to play Open Play mode.

The title basically sums it up. Currently unless you are a PVP player, playing Open Play mode is just disadvantaging your progress. By choosing Open Play, not only do you open yourself up to attack from other players, but you also add potential competition for hunting grounds as well as more station traffic (a big deal at small stations), yet you gain nothing for doing so. I started out playing open, because well it's am MMO, why wouldn't I. but as I got more into the game I started asking myself, why? I'm not someone who'd ever go out of my way to hunt PVP targets (and even if I did, I could just turn open on briefly) and I don't like the potential of being ganked. The final thing that flipped my mind was when another pilot found my hunting ground and starting competing for my kills. I want to want to play open, I just can't justify it when it slows down my progress.

I'm not sure what the correct incentive is, maybe it's an income boost (say 10% to bounties & mission payouts, 5% to trade good sell prices) that kicks in only if you've played exclusively open for the past 3 days, or something along those lines. Maybe it's something completely different. It could even be a bonus that turns off if you ever play solo and never comes back. (As long as it becomes active for all when first implemented to not punish those who played solo before it existed) Heck, maybe online lets you do something totally random like tweak your weapon load outs by swapping the location of a small & medium hard point. I'm sure I can't even begin to think up what all the incentive could be.

The basic jist though, is to make me, as a non-PVPer, want to use Open play. And not just to want to flip it on and off, but make me want to use it all the time. (So something that doesn't just benefit me instantly when I turn on Open Play, I have to keep it on for the reward. This also gives those that do want to PVP more potential traders etc to target, and makes the world feel more alive in general. (At the moment, why would a trader ever risk his massive load of cargo to a player gank if he's actually trying to progress efficiently?

here is an idea, maybe they could offer a cash prize for for being the first player to reach the rank of Elite that you can only claim if you played 100% in open mode?

i would suggest £1000 for each individual rank (combat/trader/explorer) and a grand prize of £10000 for the first person to get all three.

:p

I've been in Open Play since day one of release and rarely see other real players and only interacted with one once and that was by accident (hit the voicecall option by accident), I've never gotten a player interdicting me or causing trouble. As for busy stations with limited pad space, well gee welcome to a busy port and if you don't like it, either have a bit of patience or there are 399,999,999,999 other systems :p

That's ridiculous! They'd never do such a thing. OP's idea is pure brilliance compared to this sloth like thinking.

;)

Open isn't as full of PvPers or even griefers as the forums would make you think. Get away from the so called starter systems and your chances of meeting another player rapidly diminish.

Concur with the good Cmdr Spivey here. I was having real trouble with PvP Cmdrs blasting me to hell when I was going about my business just a couple of days ago. i posted about it on here and people explained to me the perils of Anarchy systems. I avoided them while I worked on improving and the only interactions with other players have been friendly chat banter once they scanned me and realised I had no bounty. Enjoying it in Open now!

What is a "PvPer"? I play the game. If I get attacked, I'll defend myself - whether against AI or player. If I see a fat bounty, I'll go after it - whether from AI or player.

There really is no issue here. I've yet to be attacked in open by another player. Having said that, if you're concerned about " disadvantaging your progress ", then we're not really playing the same game anyway. I'm here to have fun. If it's fun, I'll do it - whatever the implications for my "progress". Open play is fun, ergo, I play in open.
