Give players a one time 25-100 ly claim

So with the madness, drama, and FOMO about claims and stealing... how about offering everyone an opportunity to equalize the playing field? As of now people who are on more, have carriers and credits, friends in game etc are at an advantage in claiming systems. Yet even those who can churn out completed systems are at risk of something they want getting taken.

Suggestion: Allow everyone to make one claim up to 100 ly from the bubble. 50 if 100 is too much. This claim works like any other-same material costs but maybe gets longer to complete. If failed the player can make another such claim. Once a far off claim is completed they can't make another. A 100 ly radius would open up many favorable options beyond peoples' first picks. It'd be up to the player to make sure they really want their claim since it's a rare event.

Can players build 15 ly claims off the 100 ly claims? I'd say no at first. I'd apply this feature with strict rules to start.

How often players are allowed to do this? Fdev can use metrics to figure that out. Think of it more as a gesture to the community than permanent feature.

To start with it's simply a one time opportunity to claim something you really want with less stress. People could take a more conscious and relaxed approach to choosing this special claim than frantically daisy chaining or "sniping". I bet it would do a lot of good for the community, maybe even engender more cooperation "I have this far system I want to complete. I'll help you with yours if you help with mine". Take your time, pick something special. With 100 ly there are plenty of options.

Again only one and maybe 50 ly or less but something to quell the stress and drama.

I suspect Frontier won't allow colonies beyond BGS faction-expansion range, because they want factions to interact with each other. That's unfortunate, because many of us were hoping to set up a colony in deep space, thousands of lightyears out.

If they relent on that, I'm hoping there will be no range limit, just a cash limit. Us billionaires are somewhat surprised that Frontier haven't given us something to do with our cash (after buying a Carrier), so please let this be it. If I have to pay a few billion for the tritium needed to get a colony construction ship across the galaxy, I'll do it.

I don't think it's faction expansion range that's the precise issue - if you consider a chain heading out perpendicular to the bubble, like the one Canonn is running, the end of that is essentially well beyond the scope of normal BGS inter-system faction expansion anyway because pretty much the entire chain has the same four factions present in every system, making the BGS Expansion method irrelevant. (It could be brought back in to scope by using the "bring in a faction using your squadron" rule to branch a new system off the side of it, but you could do that anyway whatever the range limit was)

I think there's two gameplay issues with longer ranges.
- in the short range case, mission boards don't work if your nearest system is >20 LY away. Fixable, sure, by adding another system near the first one, but Frontier seem to have tried to set things up so that things "just work" in that way
- in the medium-to-long range case, having the nearest detention centre more than a few hundred LY away is painful (and as some groups are showing, even 15 LY lets you get that far with a big enough group effort)

I wonder if they will ever let players build detention centres? Maybe after checking there isn't one within 100ly or so. That would solve the "involuntary teleport from Witch Head to the Pleiades" problem too.

I would pay for range, although that might upset players who haven't acquired such credits yet. There could be other ways to make players pay for a far off claim, like missions or faction rep. Whatever might work I think allowing everyone to claim one somewhat far system would go a long way to settling the discontent with things as they are. I think for most people to get that ONE system they really want would lead to very happy gamers.

I saw in another thread someone say people should be able to preplan the chain of systems they claim, that would be nice too but more complicated and bring up other issues. I think any ability to plan claims or claim further would be welcome. There's a lot of people who have had their sights set on systems long before this update. I would hope everyone gets an opportunity at that. If two people want the same claim? May the person who doesn't get it find something better along the line.

Daisy chaining out is just dumb game play

That that is your only possibility does not mean it is a good idea to do. How much is feasible (to you)? 100-500-3000 Ly?

I'd love a 3k claim but tried to keep the suggestion simple so it has more chance of being considered.
