Give us stronger capitalships!

A 1-3 minute engagement involving some actual considered manouvering, tactics and targetting is definitely worth 52k compared to 20 minutes of shooting a cardboard box.

I don't have the same philosophy, fun is rewarding in itself, and there is far less risk in taking out a Python than a Capital Ship in a CZ.

But fun was not the point, the post I've answered was about the effects on buffing a capital ships for minor factions and the BGS.

And even at this moment, if there is only one CZ in a system, you need to take out the capital ship first unless you want to fight 1 vs 10 after the cap ship has taken out all the NPC on your side, so you're loosing 30 minutes before you can have an impact on the war in that system at each session.

I'd settle for just SEEING a cap ship in combat. Haven't come across one in months. They used to be common. Makes me sad.

So, i can usually get a capship down in 20-25 mins in a Python, and it's actually pathetically easy if you do one thing which isn't talked about here: take out the primary generator.

It's the capship equivalent of taking out the power generator. Its a fairly tough nut, but If you do it immediately you don't even need to use an scb. This offlines all turrets on the capship, completely taking it out of the equation. Other fighters after your biggest issue after that, but is more than manageable as the capship is no more of a threat than a cargo can, and makes a 50k bond seem excessive.

'Primary Generator'..that's it!! It has been talked about..by me! I just couldn't remember what is was called, as mentioned..& as far as being a tough nut? like I said, 10 seconds from inside the ship with no danger of taking fire!

NB - Apologies for the editing - I've had a few tonight [yesnod]

Ultimately, I agree with OP, these ships should be the harbingers of doom if you are on the wrong side - the ominous sound as they warp in should make the hairs on your neck stand up..rather than just being a great experience & curiosity the very first time you experience a CZ with one! Unfortunately, FD have made capships impotent..dumbing down to the lowest common denominator, just like the generic NPCs!

Slight derail, but I would have incorporated Arena into this scenario, so that you choose a side just like CZs/Expansion battles then you are transported into battle in these capships (maybe 16v16 or whatever format) where you are launched a la 'Battlestar Galactica'; this would be less arcadey combat than CQC that would also affect the BGS & would almost certainly have a greater take-up rate than the stand alone game that exists now! Even the loading screen could be awesome - while waiting for players to fill the quota..the tension of waiting to go into battle in the launch bays! Just a framework for ideas off the top of my head that took a couple of mins!

I agree, but what also would make a huge difference:

If FD created more capital ship types and let them operate in fleets.
Battlecruisers, Frigates, Tankers, Cruisers, Destroyers, Hospital ships, specialized Troop transports etc. etc. etc.
I would like to see many more types of warships working together.

It would make them more dangerous and it would also make war feel more real, improve immersion and realism and simply dress up the game with much needed assets.

This is one of the major things that made X-Wing and Tie Fighter such cool space war games.

I'm still waiting for the cap ship surprise assault on a system, where you're fighting a CZ against imps/feds/alliance and 3 or more enemy cap ships jump in and blast everything to hell.
Then announce "All enemy ships ceasefire or be destroyed.... impies/feds have taken over direct control of this system."

But then only a few of us would see it.. although it would be on GALNet the next day.. with a video upload maybe

Bill

And thats the start of season 3 :p

So have they actually nerfed Federation Capital Ships. Haven't gone against one in over a year but last I tried it stripped my shields extremely quickly about a year ago. Imperial ones are pretty straight forward but those Fed ones were like floating hunks of death.
