Give us the option to pay off our fines to System Authority Vessels

Hi all !

I was wondering wouldn't it be a good thing to be able to pay off your fines to a police ship?
I mean I'm grinding out scanning missions for the Federation and I noticed that I get a fine for scanning stuff.

And I noticed that we can't pay off our fines to the police, that's just !
I get pulled over a lot because of these missions and I hate being blow up because of a fine that I get from a mission objective and the only option that I have to get rid of the cops ( without killing them ) is letting them kill me .

Strange... We don't pay our fine(s) to the police when we're pulled over... We have to go to court to pay those fines. Or mail our payments in if it's a first time offense.

Why should this be different in the game?

I vote to change the topic to space court lol random players online decide if you are guilty or not and if you get a discount on fines !!!!

would actually be really useful for those times when you aren't moving and a 2% hull Eagle crashes into you in a station so you get a murder bounty and are immediately killed by the station guns. Let a random selection of actual users decide your fate :D

Although seriously, that won't be exploited by griefers and gankers. Nope. Not at all.

It would be nice if we could pay all fines on any system, with an over cost depending of distance of crime

if the jury is selected at random and the results are then averaged you'd end up with a pretty good way of determining truth. Eve Online uses something similar for their Project Discovery system which is used to identify actual exoplanets based on real stellar data.

You're assuming you can form a jury of impartial peers. This is not going to happen in this game; particularly if someone recognizes the player name in question.

This might work in exploration, but not for jurisprudence. This would be a nightmare in the game and would open other issues like harassment through revenge.

Bottom line: Let's not and say we did.

I am more for when your bounty hunting and accidentally shoot an authority vessel why can’t you say I didn’t mean it and pay a fine instead of becoming wanted.

The main reason one becomes wanted when one shoots a clean ship (accidentally or otherwise) is so that the ship that has been hit can defend itself without becoming wanted. If your attacker doesn't become wanted, then they have a bit of a head start on destroying your ship before you can lawfully fight back. There is already an 'allowance' for accidentally hitting a clean ship, and that allowance is increased if you are allied to the faction that the ship belongs to.

Not perhaps a big deal with NPCs, but much of what is done in regards crime and punishment is to prevent players taking advantage against other players.

Mind you, it goes both ways. I imagine players would not take kindly to being shot at by NPCs and the NPC not becoming immediately wanted. ;) By all accounts it's already a bit of an imposition that we have to scan a ship to see whether it's wanted before we can shoot it. :D

I would say maybe the best option is to have a neutral system with a HUB where you can pay all fines and get all bounty hunting credit at once.
Or go to that system and pay the fine at the beacon around the main star (kind of e-banking kiosk)...

Police corruption. They'd pocket the money, upgrade their ships and blast you to pieces the next time you cough in their direction.

I wish there was some option you had to at least stop the authorities blasting you to pieces...

Like, just 2 minutes ago, I was bounty hunting in a HighRez and accidentally pressed my change hardpoint set button, prompting me to blast a (so far) unscanned ship. (But they were currently scanning me+did the whole pirate thing of "Oooh, what's in your hold?" thing...

So, yeah, blasted them with 1 MC shell...
bounty gained

Fight won...

Swarmed by 3 authority conda's, and who knows how many vipers...

If only there was a "Sorry, I ed up" button, or a "I'm stowing hardpoints, I understand I did the wrong thing..." button... That'd be great...

Or if the cops ignored such offences against those who are *actually* wanted once the scan came through...

I completely agree.

You should be given the opportunity to pay a fine, rather than being immediately blown up.

Confused new players don't stand a chance doing things they don't even realize will get them 'Wanted' by the authorities who inevitably arrive and blow you up.

You can always just fly away for a few minutes instead of staying to be shot up by the police.

Being able to pay off your bounties instantly would mean that, as long as you have a few credits on you, then you can commit all the crimes you want without any consequences.

Yes, leave the system and go pay off your fines. If it's a Dormant Bounty, leave the system until it expires. Is it so hard to evacuate for the time being?

Not to mention paying more attention to your own human errors. Practice makes perfect in this case.
