Ships Giving up on my T9 for mining

I know that every CMDR has personal preferences and I think it's great that we have so many ship options in this game. That being said I have given up using my T9 for mining. I like the cockpit visibility and the numerous slots. She is fully engineered and although she holds 512 tons there are a few things that are deal breakers for me:

1. The turn rate is awful even with A rated grade 5 engineered thrusters.
2. Fully laden her jump range is terrible even with an A rated grade 5 engineered FSD.
3. She can't put up much of a fight when interdicted by a ship that mass locks her (Anaconda).
4. She runs hot. I can barely scoop over 250 without her overheating.
5. I have fully engineered A rated reinforced shields but it doesn't seem to take much to bring them down.
6. The worst part is when I arrive at a station to sell 512 tons of rocks etc the sell price is usually less than half of what you can get when you sell 250 tons of the same item. I actually tested this by going to a station with 512 tons seeing a low price and then coming back to the station with 256 tons (price is much higher) and then coming back again with 512 tons and the price is low again.
7. I am going to keep her for short range cargo hauling or if they ever bring back Community goals (which I really enjoyed) but for now I am going to park her and break out my Anaconda for mining.

I bought my 1st T9 on beta-2 to try on carrier, and then bought it on live. Not too much engee, like up-to 4 + guardian modules.
Yeh, hot, slow brick. However was ok to haul 704 trit per run from station.
Not so long ago unlocked cutter. Same 704 t of trit, and full set of weapons. She wipes any NPC trying to rob me in automatic mode (turrets). So now my t9 is for museum only :D

P.S. For mining my love is with Krait MK2. Can do any type. Except for optimised laser mining I would swap to cutter now. However, there is none such currently in game.

Ran my T9 for months mining. Did yeoman work during that time. That said, absolutely hated flying it for the same reasons you stated. Bought a Cutter and promptly sold that tub.

For large ship laser mining: Unlock the Cutter.
Other types of mining requiring agile ships: Python is usually the canonical choice.
My T9 has been in dry dock since I unlocked the Cutter (of which I have two - one laser miner and one cargo config). For the T9, you need to realise that if you have a T9 miner it is really not made for putting up a fight. The shield is a bumper shield to protect you from asteroid collisions only and you should avoid any NPC interdiction.

I only bought a T9 recently for some tritium trading and sold it not long after when that infamous FC patch nerfed the cheap tritium prices. Anyway, point being I quite enjoyed flying the t9 especially with that fabulous view from the cockpit. Like others though, I use a cutter for pure surface mining and a python if I want to do other kinds of mining as well (ie. core and subsurface).

Exactly this. I have also two cutters like that.
I'd add that the Imperial Cutter is also much faster to approach and leave from stations, and that the cockpit and cargo hatch are quite to the front, both help with mining. Of course the T-9's cockpit has the much better view and not the silly shininess of the cutter.
I keep my Type-9 Heavy for nostalgia, module storage, the feel of flying it and to have a reference cockpit.

Truth!

Cutter was my go-to when I needed to mine to unlock engineers.

Agreed. The cutters higher than normal cargo capacity, forward thrust and numerous hard-point locations make it ideal for that purpose.....that and i love the idea of how mortified Gutamaya would be to see one of his precious luxury ships turned into a rusty spike covered mining ship. I personally pained mine a nice orange and black color and still get a chuckle out every time I think about it.

I'm using this Cutter for mining https://s.orbis.zone/8tvs , works great. It is somewhat overbuilt because it was converted from multirole. If I was building it from scratch as a mining ship I would use some cheaper modules though. I had another Cutter outfitted for deep core mining but it's been decommissioned and converted into freighter. Deep Core mining sucks lately.

I have to agree with just about all of you guys. Cutter is the Cadillac of the mining universe. It has best storage, can fight if attacked, and legs. A little slow for turn(but not as bad as the T9), you can keep a ship launched fighter to keep them off your back while turning to get your massive weapons in play. If you are mining in a T9, you most likely don't have any weapons as your slots are used for mining lasers. Good luck running away in that tub.

The grind for newer players for ranks to get the Cutter is the only problem. But until you get it, I would go with the Python or Krait Mk2, to mine. The big advantage of these is that they can land on Outposts and have a great deal more maneuverability.
