Glancing (an extra bit of strategy to combat)

Shields could be designed to absorb direct hits and therefore be slightly weaker at the edges.
So to take a shield out faster you need to hit the edge of the shield.

Then the reverse for armour - hitting face on the fastest way to weaken it.

A small idea that adds a little extra strategy to learn during combat.
 
Wouldn't say that adds strategy. Just an uintuitive way to do more damage that you should always do in every situation. Reducing damage on glancing blows would add incentive to improve your aim, however.

Something that would add strategy would be the inclusion of multiple shield banks like they talked about in the dev diaries and design forum. So that hitting one shield over and over would be better than spreading out your shots. That would encourage maneuvering to stay on one side of an enemy, and keep turning yourself to a new side each pass.
