So fugly. I'm pretty sure the devs designers were like:
"Guys, we spent 95% of our budget on the imperial ships, what are we going to do for Federation?"
"We could change the paint on the Imperial ships to signify the allegiance."
"No, we have to make them look different or the community will accuse us of just re skinning the same ships."
"Okay, do you guys remember when you were a kid and your family got that new washing machine how you made it your space ship with markers and an upside down hammer for the flight stick?"
"Yeah I do."
"Let's do that."
"What do you mean?"
"Make a box, put some little wings on it so it looks flighty, and call it something Federationy like 'star cruiser.'"
"Since we dropped the ball, why don't we call this the 'Dropship.'"
"Yeah, now you get it. I like that. We're going with it. A flying cardboard box with wings and call it a 'Dropship.' Those role play weirdos will love it. It'll be like they're six years old again."
