Glorious

So, I've had the rift since launch, and elite dangerous has been a treat. That said, it's felt a little incomplete.

Fast forward to this past week, finally pulled the trigger on a buttkicker, took the time to get everything synced up with voice attack, and built myself a little "captains chair" with foot and armrests. (oh, and I got a fan, wasn't going to mention it but noticed someone else did the exact same thing recently :p) I also replaced the "face interface" (read: padding that sit on your face) with something that sits more flush, lowers god rays for me, and removes that gap beneath nose.

it may not look like much, but it's absolutely the (next) next level!! Feeling so immersed now, the future is truly here. Elite is still the tops for me in the world of vr, especially considering it wasn't even originally designed for it.

This game is really the killer app for VR! I just started playing too with my Rift, x52 HOTAS and just downloaded (but not setup) voice attack. Like you said the future is here...

I am playing Elite in VR for a year now and i can´t even think about playing it on a monitor anymore.

A decent transducer is on top of my list for sure. I play Elite and Project CARS almost exclusively, besides some experiments and demos, that come my way.
Looking at how you describe your experience, i am even more eager to get the transducer as soon as possible now. :)

Yes, just got a rift, and it really is a different experience. :)

It's not so much that I can't imagine playing it on a monitor (I was using a 32" TV), it's just that in those two dimensions it really is just a game. Things that were dull to do before are (at least at the moment), completely alive, you are 'doing them', not doing something to get somewhere else or do something else. Immersion in 2D is role-play, and there's nothing wrong with that, but in VR that immersion becomes the fact that you really are flying a spaceship or driving an SRV.

I'm probably not expressing myself very well. :) When I was given the rift, I really wasn't sure it was what I wanted, but as I've got it set up and working I find myself playing the game with a sense of wonder, actually looking at it and finding myself giggling like a child at the beautiful and incredible sights that are everywhere.

Who knows if that feeling will persist, but right now, dropping out of SC in front of a Coriolis station, or transitioning through orbital cruise and glide to land on a planet is so much more than gameplay. :)

Enough said, agree with all of the above posts. ED is great in VR, no monitor for me, I can't, I won't :D

Frank_G - Transducer?

Dirt Rally is well worth a look in VR also. Cracking experience.

Interesting!

I was considering getting a butt-kicker, but I live in a 1st floor apartment with wooden floors, and I play late at night, so that's a major no-no. :(

I'm considering a KOR-FX vest though. I'm guessing it'd be a similar effect but without passing the vibrations down into the floor. Would love to hear more from people who've bought any kind of such force-feedback/haptic feedback devices.

How do you configure the audio outs for the bk? Somehow you need to split the HMD audio so a signal also travels to the kicker - any wiring required there or is there an easy way to do it?

That's a good game in VR, but for me it makes me nauseated sometimes. :(
If you haven't done already, enable the "lock head to horizon" option (not sure how exactly it's called in Dirt Rally).
Just like when driving SRVs in Elite I found that option essential for avoiding VR sickness.

If your normal windows audio device is the snap of outs on the motherboard you can select to output both in oculus audio settings.
But if you like me use a usb headset you will need something like audio keeper banana.

Yeah you are going to really like a transducer as it works with all your main VR sims you listed.

I use to think the same thing till I built a cockpit for racing sims. I still really like ED but the hardware support for sim racing is through the roof. Way more immersive from a tactical feedback point of view than ED.

Yup, the Buttkicker is just as important as VR in my setup, they compliment each other perfectly, couldn't fly without the BKgamer. Huuge thanks to Cmdr Shadragon for donating his BK for my UK setup, my own BK is 6000km away with my old rig.

Btw, are you from the UK? I couldn't find one for sale anywhere over here.

Been googling around and from what i can find.
Not being in the US or Canada. Buttkicker just doesnt want my money.
So since they tell me to stuff it, they can.
Contrary to illusion they like to foster they are far far from the only name when it comes to tactile transducers. Sure they have a nice package but that's really all it is.

I bought a cheap but comfy office chair mounted 2 of these https://www.amazon.ca/Aura-AST-2B-4-Pro-Bass-Shaker/dp/B0002ZPTBI
transducers (1 to the bottom 1 to the back) to the chair, Bought a cheap 110 watt Sony amp to drive them and "Y"split he sound off my creative x-fi soundcard.
I like to introduce people to VR by putting them in DCS World in VR and crank up the chair, then , run the cold start on the M18 heli. When those twin blades get to shakin the seat it usually induces the expected expletives.
