Hi

I note that when I am playing this game my ship, and indeed the stations, clock shows GMT.

Can I change this?

Thank you. :)

UTC is the "politically correct" way to refer to GMT ;)

Like using Common Era (CE) vs. Anno Domini (AD) and Before Common Era (BCE) vs Before Christ (BC).

But like others have said, you can't change the in game time. Whether you call it GMT or UTC, that's the standard time in game, for consistency's sake. Imagine the confusion if people could use their local times in game, and they're told to "do this" by 8PM, but show up 5 hours late (if you're in Eastern Time, that is).

Coordinated Universal Time - which should be "CUT" but the decision was made to make it "UTC". Tells you a lot...

I find it really annoying that the ship's clock is going to be 1 hour out until October! I assume it was this way during alpha/beta?

I find it strange that people don't understand this - in-game, you're not on Earth, you are in space, roving around the galaxy. Galactic Time rules!

Hmm, lots of arguing about GMT and UTC.... let's see what google has to say...

There is no time difference between Greenwich Mean Time and Coordinated Universal Time

Aaahh! Google yelled at me!

From a purely pedantic POV, I am fairly certain Google is wrong. They insert leap seconds independently, even if they always do it the at same time, they are derived independently.

And people from around the world will always have to add or subtract time, if they aren't in the exact same time zone.
This is normal behaviour from a lot of online games, either the game is "server time" or some universal time.

People not in that specific time zone will have to adjust accordingly.

The ships clock is not off, it's accurate to in-game time.

Uh, can't fire up the game right now: are you being literal about a

... ship's clock? Is that a recent addition?

That may be, but they are functionally correct. It doesn't say there is no difference, only that there is no time difference. If your interest in the difference between the two is so non-technical that you're asking google then you're probably not going to be led wrong by the answer.

Mostly I just found it funny that google chose to YELL about it.

Blame the French. :p

The military uses UTC or Zulu time no matter where they are in the world. Even Nasa (and other space agencies) use it. It simplifies coordination of mission timings.
