There could be passengers who are interested in anything no matter where you take them, missions only limited in time perhaps. That is to say mission reward could be proportional to the scans and first discoveries, simply acting as a multiplier. It would be great incentive to take out bigger, more versatile ships to the void instead of stripped ones.
