Go-Karts.. gas or electric?

So.. I noticed today the back of the Go-karts have what look like an Electric motor.. Certainly does not look like a combustion engine....
Yet they make the sound of a Gas / Petrol engine.

Anyone else noticed this one?.

Yes indeed.
I like the sound, and it reminded me of the smell of petrol go carts.
So I went looking for the engine...
