Ships God Ship?

This post is basically a celebration of brute force. If any of what I say below resonates with you, share your experiences! Wallow in the might of our epic craft!

So anyway, I bought a Python about two months ago. Didn't have the full cash to outfit it (and keep my rebuy...) so I used it 'incomplete' for a month before switching to the DBS. I came back to it yesterday with enough money to finally complete it.

Gotta say, I've never felt such power.

I have ten (TEN) B5 shield cells and an A rated booster on an A6 Shield generator, and I have enough spare power for another A booster if I wanted it.

I've got two Heavy Pulse Turrets on my dorsal side, which seem to track way faster and more accurately than class 1 turrets I've used before. Using these alone, targets of Cobra size or below just melt away and die. I've got a chin mounted Heavy Beam Laser (fixed) which is devastating to anything, but particularly powerplants of heavy targets. I can run all three of these weapons while keeping my pips in shields so I feel invulnerable.

Just in case, I've got two Medium Multi-Cannons on Gimballs. Just for when I need that extra burst of dps, for snatching a last hit or ending a fight. If you focus on someone's powerplant with all five weapons, even against another Python, the fight is over in eye-watering time.

Two point defense turrets (over 'n under) have 100% coverage, unlike other ships where there will still be blindspots.

And I still have 1.5MW of spare power with A rated mods across the board.

The ship feels just barely heavier than an Asp in combat!

I made 6.7Mcr in 90mins in a HIRES just now. I feel invulnerable (though I'm not stupid; I know I'll meet my match soon). Small ships can't hide from the turrets and if I ever catch them for a moment in my frontal arc it's all over for them. Larger ships often die before they return a shot. Even heavy ships in wings, I can tank for weeks and bring down multiple opponents. PvE this thing is a slaughterhouse.

Next up, PvP. Time to raise some pulses. Elite: Dangerous? I AM THE DANGER.

Oh, and here's a picture of pure, cold death sliding through the night. =D

It is quite fantastic. Currently I have three medium beam turrets to fry small annoyances, and twin heavy gimbal beams to cook the larger ships. With a good power dist the juice flows really well and the only thing I miss is the speed to catch other ships.

I'm learning FA off turns, and I can't help but giggle when I quickly turn around for the kill.

How do you have so much power? I'll need to try your config on my Python when I've a chance. I've barely taken the shrink-wrap off yet, and out-of-the-box it sucks for combat.

Probably the short answer is "the 51,289,112cr power plant" which I'm guessing you've not yet bought. In fairness though, I think I could run this set up with only minor cutbacks with the B rated plant.

I don't have the game in front of me right now so some of this might not be 100% accurate, but I believe I'm running something like this:

If I were you I would get rid of those point defenses and add 2 more 0A shield boosters,, missiles do crap damage now anyhow you don't need the point def. Also, no need for A rated life support or sensors unless u just have the power to spare. I currently run 3 Large G pulse lasers and 2 Med T burst lasers and it works very good, i am pretty good at using FA off to quickly turn and reacquire my target once it passes me.

Hmm, I had the understanding that sensors increase turret / gimbal aim. Is it an urban legend?

--------

I'm running with a B powerplant setup at the moment - I have enough to upgrade, but I didn't need it yet, this thing is a powerhouse. I might try your setup though, sounds fun.

Awesome ship, yes.
Sadly, i got bored by it fast enough. There is no fun in slaughtering anything you want without any effort.
Still fly it from time to time, when i want something done fast and easy.
Mine has 4 shield boosters and Aisling's shield - ~850Mj....

I have read that before also (and seen arguments for both sides) but have never had any problem with my Turrets or Gimbaled weapons acquiring their targets with my less than A rated sensors,,, i believe this is a myth, but maybe i will test it out myself and see.

Thanks a lot for sending this on. Yes, that might be the bit I'm missing.. along with lots of other stuff! I think I only had ~30m to spend after purchasing the Python. I would have waited longer except there was a discount I wanted to take advantage of.

I'll try following that setup, more or less. It'd be nice to have my trading Python be able to handle itself in a fight.

No problem. Best of luck out there! Not that you'll need it, in this ship =).

I got promoted to Deadly this evening. Still not lost my shields with this thing. Properly menaced a few commanders earlier. What. A. Ship!

L: 3C/F Beam Laser
M: 2F/G Multi-cannon
M: 2F/G Multi-cannon

Interesting setup. I have tried this yesterday evening and I am convinced. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
I just recently upgraded my Python to A components after abusing her as a trade vessel for a long time, indeed a very powerful ship. I still like to hop into other ships just for a change and some challenge.

Python is surely not a "God Ship".

Shields are not as strong as you could imagine, combat speed is pretty low and energy weapons heat a lot (you need to be careful with a simple class 3 beam).
You need to work a lot with pips in order to have best of it.
Take 10 tons of gold as cargo and go in a High-RES zone to see how long you are able to survive constant attack even of Cobras and Vipers (begin your attack on one, be scanned by two more).

But it is a beautiful multi-role ship which allow you to go on any stations or outposts and take most missions you can find (assassinate, bounty hunting, transport, smuggling, ...).
Best working horse for a independent pilot.

If Python is a God Ship, what is my Diamondback Explorer then?

Solo PvP battle begins at 2:30...

I love the Python too. I hated it at first and even sold the first one and got back to my FDL. But with A graded modules across the board and most importantly the A power plant it really shines.
Only problem is that when things go south it's difficult to get away since the ship is so slow. Not that you will find yourself in that situation very often though. But just to be on the safe side I got military bulkheads and armour upgrades in the 5 slots. It didn't affect my manouverability terribly much to do so and when I want to haul something I just switch the 6 slot shield cell banks and the 5 slot armour (+ 1 other slot) and have 200 to cargo space. Sweet

l be buying a Vulture and a FDL again as alternative ships just for the fun of it.

With only 30 shots in the Imperial Hammer versus all his shield banks.... I don't see how I can break thought his defense any other way. I would've ran out of ammo or ran out of hull if I fought in his terms. I made sure he fought in mines. Ancient Roman naval tactics included ramming of enemy ships to sink or board it. It's easy to dodge a ram, players that Ive fought the 2nd time or probably seen the my videos and learned of my tactic easily avoid me. But I like the challenge and enjoy fighting other players who counters my actions and keep this combat more fun.
