Godus

So, I've just received a Godus Kickstarter update! Rarer than hens teeth but finally it looks like the project is actually going somewhere. I was pretty worried about this one because there has been very little news from 22 cans for an awful long time and finally they have provided an update with what looks like some pretty large scale alterations. I'm convinced there is a game in there somewhere so I have high hopes for the update.

It's nice to see that they are taking the feedback seriously, seems there is still some hope for this game.

Let us know what you all think of the changes, I'll have a little play at some point later, but for now I'll be playing Titanfall.

I was going to get this one at one point, but read a lot of the review on Steam and decided against it at the time. I loved Populous and was excited to hear of the project. Hope 22Cans can pull off a good one. Keep us in the loop and let us know how the update goes.

It updated last night but I didn't have time to play it. I'll give it a go tonight as long as Frontier don't set Alpha 3 free to the wild....

Edit:

Okay had a play around with Godus for about an hour last night and it is better. A lot of the clicking has been removed for example instead of tapping 3 or 4 times to destroy it now you click on it and hold the button down. Same deal with trees. Sculpting also seems less clicky than before. But you still have to click on all your houses to collect power which is still highly annoying. I didn't get far enough through to get the settlement statue which will improve that.

It's still a pretty charming game but I need to play it more, I can't quite make up my mind if this is a game I want to play long term or just something for a bit of relaxing fun now and again.

Okay, I haven't played Godus for a while, it just isn't pulling me back in. One of the main reasons is I really don't like the card system and the collecting of stickers. It's boring and just doesn't seem to fit the game, I really just don't get it. At present there's only so much flattening of land you can do before you want to do something different. The voyages are more than a little odd as well. It's basically a cheap lemmings rip off.

I can see Godus gathering dust on my hard drive but I'll give them a chance to add in some more gameplay before I make too harsh a judgement. That said it's been a bit of car crash up until now, which is most unfortunate becasue it promised so much.

I bet that bloke who won that cube thing is cursing and watching his prize money vanish into thin air! ;)

It was a bit of a facepalm moment for me when they said they realised the stickerbook mechanic wasn't working ... yes ... so they replaced it with a sticker timeline. In no way did thatt address the fundamental suckiness of the stickers thing. Also, the design is mainly based around waiting for timers of various lengths to run down, which isn't as relaxing as Mr. Molyneux thinks it is.

The timing thing really gets on my nerves! Waiting 20 minutes for a little house to get built is sooooo boring, it adds nothing except for frustration to the game.

I got it very early on and haven't tried it since to be honest. It was such a horrible, obvious tablet-port with pained game mechanics that I never felt a desire to go back. I may look in on it again later this year but when I consider I have been a Peter Molyneux fan since my Amiga days I can't help but think where the man has been going wrong ever since they heyday of his superlative Populous and Magic Carpet games. I think it all started to go wrong with Black and White now that I think about it.

Hi,

Sadly after installing the update the game stalls at 49% and then crashes :(

Kro

49% is the figure they give for how complete they think the game is, rather than anything to do with loading.

I'm crashing out from the splash screen every time I try to load now, so there must be some kind of bug at work.

Oh how I hate thee

I decided to give this another shot as they have released an updated 50.5% complete effort. I really wish I'd never seen this disaster of a game. Lets run through some of the delightful "features"

Time
You have to wait hours and I mean hours for anything to happen. People breeding, takes hours. Wheat growing, takes hours. Mana, takes hours. Progress is so painfully slow that it's impossible. The only way to play the PC version is to play for 5 minutes then go away for 2 hours and do something else.

Astari
What the actual are these little freakers about. Your people's happiness is judged against them and if they are happier a whole pile of your people just up and leave. The issue being it is almost impossible to be happier than these little gits because all they do is cackle and throw parties. So all your people leave and it takes HOURS to replace them.

Gems
<shudders> Now to speed everything up you can use gems. You find gems out and about or by mining (which you can't get to because everything takes HOURS) or by going on voyages (more on thos in a minute.....) Problem is they are hard to find and you very quickly use them all up and you are paralysed.....yes you've guessed it for HOURS.

Voyages
Cheap and nasty Lemmings rip off. If your people get killed you have to wait......HOURS for new people.

Please do no touch this game with a bargepole in it's present format. It stinks and I mean really stinks. This is the only KS I wish that I had never backed, it is just not what was promised at all. What it is, is a horrible touch screen mess that is designed to be played on a tablet in 5 minute bursts, then put down for HOURS and picked up again. I feel completely conned at present and I'm really not sure anything can be salvaged from the wreckage.

Sorry for the rant, I've been thinking about this for.....HOURS

ARRRGRGHHHHHHHH!!!!

Embarrassingly, it's racked up quite a lot of 'Time played' by me. That's because I found the best thing to do was just leave it playing in the background for hours at a time. The whole thing is predicated around running timers down, which pretty much comes from the fact that it's designed as a F2P microtransaction game, and has nothing to do with proper PC gaming at all.

Yes I probably should have added they released an ios version where you can, I believe, buy gems to speed up the game. Horrible mechanic and the whole gems thing is tainting the PC version.

Thanks for the update! You are making me happy I didn't invest in it, even though I wanted to... Here's to hoping they actually manage to pull a functional game out of one of their 22 cans...

Is anyone still playing this utter tripe? I just can't bring myself to waste anymore time on it at all. I haven't looked at it in months, well apart from when I fire up steam and it stares back at me like a dog that has just crapped on my carpet.......Never again Molyneux, who I believe has announced he is working on a new game. How about finishing Godus first in the form you promised during the KS and not as some horrific free-to-play tablet mess. Utter joke of a Kickstarter.
