GOG thread (2) - DRM free games to consider.

Well i relented, in part as some changes have been made on the site (no auto-play video's now on the front page (still get them in the 'Store' though) and a new link to the appropriate forum on a games info page) so i felt GOG were at least listening and responding to their customers concerns.

£25 got me, Aven Colony (been keeping an eye on this since it appeared) and a bunch of Star Wars stuff (4 games) and Imperium Galactica II.

There is one difference. GOG games that are DRM free will still function even if you uninstall GOG.

Indeed, you aren't required to install GoG Galaxy at all.

However i do concede that down to the letter of the law and the whole copyright thing 'technically' this should not be, but it does not stop the above scenario from being a thing, so yeah. Enjoy the lawyering or something?

The same can be said for any pirated title. Plenty of people with exactly the same de facto degree of ownership of non-GoG, formerly DRM ridden, games than you have over your GoG originating titles.

Ownership is a strictly legal term

Ownership has legal definitions, but they are hardly the only definitions.

the right to access content has nothing to do with its enforcement (DRM).

It's about convenience.

I pay for games on GoG because they don't have obtrusive DRM that gets in the way of my use of the titles.

I rarely buy non-MMO games from other sources because the the negative value of the DRM exceeds the positive value of the game in almost all cases. I can do without, and even if I couldn't, I'd rather steal a copy than see those responsible for annoying me with DRM it get a single cent.

the right (license) to use your backup is still bound to your active GOG account - just as with any digital store.

Many are non-transferable licences, but they are bound to the original purchaser, not any account.

However, many of the licences are also the ones the games originally had and many older titles do allow transfer of the licence as long as no copies are retained by the former licencee.

Meh, it's just a worse Gauntlet II. [yesnod]

The first Diablo was the only one I liked. Had a lot of atmosphere and was an improvement on the old Gauntlet formula in many ways.

Second game was alright, but it was a bit too fast paced to really have similar flavor. Never even considered the newer stuff.
