Elite / Frontier Going as far away as possible in "Frontier"

Hello,

i wonder if some "Frontier" players here have tried to go as far as possible in the Frontier galaxy, using the wormholes !

In fact, i'm actually trying to go to the limit of the galaxy (the rumor says that there is no blackhole in the center of the galaxy, so i've decided to go to the edge of it :)!
I'm using a Panther with 1500 tons of hydrogen, and so i'm travelling by making some 655 Light Years jumps !

i've begin this journey yesterday, and i've just reached Dasofa (386/14) this morning. I'll do this until i run out of fuel (i will not be able to refuel this ship)... or discover another civilisation :)

I'm playing the atari ST version, emulated on my PSP GO.

without mholes i never get further than 500 LY(from Sol) with fuel scooping in a puma clipper(the panther cant do that ;) ).

however with mholes i did one trip "around" the galaxy by going in the four "corners", though i never went to the edge, that's what the puma was supposed to do(without mholes) before it failed in a system called lalialia, NE from Sol, something like 495LY from it. because of pirates i had to arm and shield it, which is a waste of space for fuel...

i've found this website recently

at one point it gives a list of a few systems way beyond human space yet which still have spaceports. it might be usefull if you can use one of them as some kind of deep space outpost for refueling & making an overhaul of your ship.

there is a Dasofa system much closer to Sol, a bit to the North, it belongs to the federation ;) yet there's no spaceport nor any orbital station in that system at all.

Merci beaucoup, cher Nikomak !

Thanks for this link ! It's incredible, this guy should have played "Frontier" for YEARS !! (and probably still does :)

He gives the coordinates of the Pleiades (32/32) and the Dumbell nebula (-72/38) : once i'll be back from my trip to the edge of galaxy, i'll go there to see what they look like !

Thanks for the link, having a read now... interesting stuff:)

you're welcome, there are a few other things on the same website, if you go back to the home page you should find a few interesting links. there's one giving for instance prices for goods in many system, for instance Sol sells Luxury good to about 1200C/t,while ayurso(4;0) buy them at more than 3000C/t. ;)

there is also a little map of human space(much smaller than mine :D, and not covering the whole aera, nor as much detailed).

edit : de rien ! the pleiades are visible in frontier, look at the galaxy map for that(galactic map or F2, then galaxy map F10(or the last button on the left))

the galaxy map will place a mark to show where your galactic map is currently focused. so if you move the galactic map(on a computer you can use the shift key to go faster, c to center on your ship's current position) and then check on the galaxy map, the marke will have moved, you can use it to find a few "interesting" stars, like polaris, spica(-4;-17) you can surely go there, it's just beyond the frontier of human space, the pleiades and a few others. as i understood he didnt have to play the game that much, he used this program : http://www.jongware.com/

I did jump around the galaxy quite a lot, using the wormholes. In order to find objects marked on the galaxy map: with the galaxy map zoomed in,imagine that there is another character in front of the name of the object. The sector you want is the pixel that would appear in the centre of that character.

IIRC there isn't anything visible on the sector level maps when you get the spot marked Dumbell Nebula. Jumping to Beta Lyrae always caused the game to crash on the Amiga.

There is no black hole in the centre of Frontier's galaxy, AFAIK. I never did find anything, although there is a sort of gap in the very densely packed stars in the core. Got a list of remote systems at home somewhere...

if you wonder what's the real shape of the frontier's galaxy ... ;)

Right, I've dug out an old disk that me and a mate of mine started compiling on the Amiga in about 1994 (I may stick it on this forum as an .adf file if I can make it fit for human consumption) Here are some remote inhabited systems

-511, -511 Ayethess
-511, -511 Aycombe
-511, -511 Beiophi
-512, -510 Iolabe
-514, -510 Caniness
-509, -515 Invece
-1276, -1276 Qulaess
-1532, -1532 Zealand
-5132, -1532 Esstati
-768, -768 Socaned
-765, -765 Tihoex
-766, -766 Arwabe
-766, -766 Daqueth
-767, -767 Ackura
-767, -767 Quaed
-1788, -1788 Infaar
-1790, -1790 Edaso
-1790, -1790 Exuren
-1790, -1790 Vewala
-1792, -1790 Arzefa
-1791, -1791 Zehoan
-1789, -1791 Enolmi
-1789, -1791 Edliaess
-1788, -1790 Wamiol
-3065, -3065 Aninze
-3065, -3065 Fadeat
-3068, -3068 Canenue
-3069, -3069 Auran
-3069, -3069 Aandcan
-3070, -3070 Canarach
-3070, -3070 Lahola

IIRC these were found just by scrolling diagonally 'south' and 'west' from Sol (hence the sector co-ordinates being the same for latitude and longitude) There are doubtless thousands more such systems out there in the galaxy

makes me sad... my map of the entire human space is still incomplete .... :(

oh yes, hem hem ...
i thereby declare that all inhabitants of all current colonies beyond coordinates (-12;-16) and (13;15) are no longer human due to ... allopatric speciation...:D

ps : no Patrick, no, i'm not calling you. ;)

I could be mistaken but I think that only applies for FE2. I think those colonies are gone in FFE. Since they were pretty much a bug in the code the generates random colonies. The uniformity and predictability of where they are found is an artifact of that.

I used to like to imagine that they were far flung colonies, explorers who had hurled themselves into the big black to seed new worlds across the galaxy.
