going for a type 9, advice?

so i have a type 7 (worth 23M), and a Viper (worth 5M) and 25M in bank, is it a bad idea to buy a python first, then sell it to get a type 8 when i have enough. would doing this make up for the cost of the resell or no, just keep grinding till i get the money?

I would suggest that you should not buy a type 9 until you are able to:- buy the A-fsd & d-fittings for everything else, afford the insurance, and have enough change to fill the cargo. So if your plan is to trade then focus on buying the T9. If you want to be able to mission run/ rank-up/ kill pretty much anything & land anywhere then go for the python:)

I've just sold everything I own to buy this T9

It cost me a cool 100M credits and I have 15M left over for insurance and cargo.

Anything with less spec just couldn't jump far enough for my trade routes.

EDIT- Adjusted spec by moving D6 shield to A5 and adding extra cargo space which is now at 496T. :D

wait mission run? isn't the highest reward for a mission 150 (kill missions) that take much longer than a run with cargo that can get you 800kish credits in the same time?
or are there ways to get decent income from missions (of curse not as much as trading but also enough to warrant getting the python?)

Now that repairs have become so cheap - do you really need a shield? You could fit 64 extra cargo...

Best advice? Don't.

Set up a Python for trading instead. At 284T with better range and handling plus better trades at shorter distances due to being able to land at outposts, you can earn just as much with far better survivability in a Python trader. I had a one hop run that was generating 800k per round trip after fuel costs before the recent price drop for fuel. That same run would now be about 850k per round trip 13ly jump.

The whale can't even jump more than 13 LY on a good day.

I second this, I was looking a trading to a type-9 last night, but with the fuel cost changes (No more scoop) and the addition of shield boosters you can get 280T in a Python with a A3 shield gen a A2 SCB and run armed and protected with 13 or 14 LY laden jump depending on your systems fitting.

NPC and Player pirates wings, and the Pythons big base shield strength was the deciding factor for me.

I went for the Python and later upgraded to the Type-9. Never regretted that decision.

Python is a nice Trader - but hands-down no competition to the Type-9.
Especially now, with no Fuel Scoop needed and multiple jumps not really costing you much time anymore, can't go wrong with a Type-9.

Just remember you'll really want that 6A FSD (16.2M Cr) and the big Cargo bays.

PS.
Don't run the Type-9 unshielded. Ever!

Just in the last 2 days, I was interdicted by Competent Anacondas, Pythons and Federal Dropships. You do not want to try to run away mass-locked Factor 16+ without shields ;)
And as the Type-9 evades Interdictions like... well... almost never does - 99% of all Interdiction are basically auto-move submits.
Ending up mass-locked just once by i.e. even a small ASP can entirely ruin your day.
No point in losing a 110M Cr asset carrying 8M Cr of Cargo to senseless greed. These extra 64tons you can pick up on the next run, as often as you like.
But you'll definitely appreciate some 5A Shields assisted by a 0A Shield Booster and at maybe some 3A Cell Banks :)

Halo Moon's advice is spot-on, dont skimp on fittings or insurance, even if you have to delay buying the type 9 and grind a bit more in the t7 to buy everything from the start.

Your Indiction rate from NPC pirates has probably been quite low up to now, my rate would average 2-3 in several hours of playing, well, once I bought my T9 this went through the roof for the first 4-5 hours, where my indiction rate sky-rocketed to about 6-8 an HOUR, I even had three indictions just going to one station! This was pre-1.2, where I only had 1 npc attack me each time. Things have changed now that we have Wings. So I would recommend you use some of those empty Utility bays on the t9 and put in some Shield Boosters.

Also, since flying the T9 is so much different to anything else you've flown previously, until you get used to it's slow handling you could install a Docking Computer to help you through the Letter Box opening, until at least you have enough spare credits that a crash or two wont bankrupt you. The insurance will be over 5 million credits. Accidents happen, especially when tired.

Aside from all this, I have to save I love flying the T9, it's got character and lets you take your time while still earning you a ton of credits.

Just got myself settled in a type 9 so it's all very fresh on my mind, I was able to kit out mine with a 6B FSD and 308 cargo for around 80-85mil CR. It gets be a ~12ly jump so is enough for now for me. I would say 95-100mil CR would get you full capacity and not too bad jump distance with best FSD.

It all depends on where you are trading and your jump distances really.
