Newcomer / Intro Going in circles for Chemical Manipulators

Ok, for the past 2 hours, I have been flying in circles looking for Chemical Manipulators. Arsenic and Datamined wakes are not too bad.

But these CMs are terrible. According to the in-game description, they are found in "destroyed trade ships in Combat Aftermaths in Hi-security System in shipping lanes", so I have picked a Industrial/Refinery HiSec system and running back and forth between the nav beacon and a local station. (keeps me close and into the shipping lane.)

Combat Aftermaths seem to be about 10%~25% of the USSs, and of those, maybe 20% have maybe 1 manipulator. All this to blow them on random roles on upgrades.

My thing is, what is the best 'non-combat' way to find these? Are there properties of systems I should look for that would increase my chance of finding these things? I have been at this for over 3 hours, and I have found 2. You get 3 each, but still... that's >1 hit an hour average. There's got to be a way better then this!! [knocked out]

I don't want to do combat, because I have already been in "Interdiction City" with a 6k bounty with a previous skimmer mission, so I am not into making that any worse right now. I got 4 days to go, and I want that to expire. --and please don't raz me about not doing combat, I will reply with 'Isn't this supposed to be a game about choices, so please respect my choice.' I will get to that when I feel like it.

I am just looking for a better system type for these CMs or a better thing to look for.
Slow and Grindy is one thing, but I would like to actually get to the end of the grind in my lifetime! [haha] As is often with these things, you just have to know where to look. (like with the wakes), so, that's what I am asking for. The "sweet" spot, that turns up these little buggers a little faster.

The tanker has just changed location, I was there last night. It is now in Bandizel system, about 90ly from Sol.

I hate doing this stupid stuff, but I was forced to last night. As the guide says, go to the tanker, check 'Contacts' window for materials you want, scoop them, press esc, Save and Exit to main menu, Start, Solo, check contacts, scoop as needed, press esc, save and exit, Start, Solo, check contacts, etc etc.

Don't be disheartened if you do this 5 times (or even 10) without seeing a single chemical manipulator, you will sometimes get 6 in one instance, they WILL turn up, but RNG is RNG. I got 45 in one hour yesterday.

As mentioned in the guide, you get to know in which area they spawn, so you can scoop, then back up 100m, then relog, then you're right in front of where they spawn. Toward the end of my litttle farming session I was getting about 1 per minute.

Yep, as KTC says - Dav's Hope is your best murder-free choice.

Respectfully, it's really not. Either if the two tanker or cargo megaships are faster and easier. At Dav's you have to land and do a lap around the compound to check. At either megaship it's a simple relog and check of the contacts panel.

As somehow who has done countless laps around Dav's (or is it Hobbes now?), Go with the megaships.

Dav's Hope changed its name to Hobbes Hope. Got a bit confused at start when I finally got there and found that "settlement" name doesn't fit. Triple check: system is ok, planet is ok, coords are ok. Name is no-ok. Anyway, rest worked "as intended".

slow circle around the place just to find 0 CMs. Relog, rinse and repeat. After an hour I got 12 CMs. Since we get 3 items per find it was 4 hits. 1 drop per 15 minutes, average. Then I found info about Tanker. Went there.

Needless to say - Tanker gave me 24 CMs within half an hour... It's waaaaay faster than planetary scooping. No need to circle around, just open left panel and check for CMs. If not there, relog. I could "visit" several instances in the time I spent driving.

If you want CMs - tanker all the way.

Dav's Hope AND the Naphtha tankers AND the other megaships that have materials floating around them, are all governed by the same algorythms, I am sure.

Difference is you can see all the materials in space and you don't have to land and depart a planetary body when you visit a tanker.

Sounds like the space-based ones are working better so I stand corrected.

BTW Although the settlement gantry now reads Hobbes Hope (no apostrophe) it still shows in nav panel etc as Dav's Hope.
