Yesterday I found myself friendly with Emperor's Grace after a couple deliveries of much needed gold. Last night I went to sleep with a Federation rep hit due to hitting yet another moron patrol, so today I made another gold run and guess what? Not only I cleared my rep, but I'm suddenly promoted to full Allied status 
Funny stories aside: I'm getting the impression that supplying good, honest gold does more to reputation than usual everyday missions. Anyone can confirm it?
