The look of the gold depends very much on the starlight that illuminates your ship.

You didn't pay enough for the real gold plating.... Gold is at $1150 per troy ounce.... you only paid $15

It takes a lot of gold to cover our ships

Well it's only a gold paint job - it's not going to weigh that much - I was underwhelmed with it as well but if you switch to the external camera you get a better look at it. Shame it appears to not show well from the cockpit.

It's true that it would be more massive, but consider this:
Cosmic radiation.
Gold plating is effective for two key things - conductivity and radiation-deflection.
So gold plating would be heavier in effect, but less cosmic ray shielding would be needed in the hull, so the weight would balance out

Yeah, the Asp doesn't have great visibility of anything paint related from the cockpit, all you see is a flat surface of those intake/headlight boxes.

I'm waiting for decals.
So I can put a list of part manufacturers down the side of my ship.
None of which are fitted.

Or a giant bean can over the engine exhausts, so I can make my ship sound like a wet fart, and speed around the dock annoying the old folk.

Once completed, I can then crash into the nearest object.
