Goliaths are 10x too tough! (They are not hard, but take forever to kill.)

Skimmers & 'guardian' skimmers literally only take a few shots with my SRV to destroy, but a Goliath needs at least 2000 shots (the entire SRV ammo capacity before reloading).

This means I don't even bother trying to destroy Goliaths anymore for skimmer destruction missions. I just kill the skimmers/guardians, and then run away until they have respawned (it's great that they DO respawn since 3.0 was released).

Sorry, couldn't resist :D

I agree even though using the beefed up ammo helps.

I did some skimmer "take down the power" missions and tried for about an hour to do this via srv and said fudge it as not only do they take a long time to kill they also respawn rather quickly

I finished my mission by hopping in my AspX x and doing a couple passes over the base while going all out with my weapons to complete...so much faster and easier to complete.

If we had missiles on the srv we could use them on the Goliaths but alas we are stuck with this weaksauce weapons they have.

The best way to take on a goliath is to have a spot in the lee of a rock or hill that you can get behind to repair the hull and resupply your ammo. They are not hard to kill, it just takes a very long time and is quite tedious... Which is why I don't fight them anymore. Even from a ship they can take awhile to kill. Not really fun to do.

Hm, good idea. And quite easy to implement I would think. I usually just fit my ship with missiles for these missions, but missiles on an SRV would be a lot of fun.

I used to destroy hundreds of these smashing hard into them in my Clipper, nothing like shield to shield punch throwing.

That was before FDEV decided that clubbing a skimmer with ones ship was too clever. Now it's gamey, for gamey reasons.

Leave the Goliath ALONE!

They're perfect just the way they are. Yes, they're tough, they're supposed to be.
I've taken out a few in an SRV and it's a very long, actually fun battle. Synthesis is the difference between victory and defeat when it comes to dealing with these monsters, and it should be that way.

Don't screw with them unless you really mean it.

I made the mistake of taking one on with an adder. Now I'm not saying it can't be done, but I vastly underestimated what a Goliath is capable of doing and how tough they are.

I used to kill Goliaths with my ship.
Even then it took a while. These things are tough. They are the equivalent of tanks.

I won't even attempt to do it with an SRV.
Our current SRV are simply not very well equipped for serious combat.
I would love a combat oriented SRV with at least two weapon slots.

I agree that they should not be weakened.
They are good as they are.

But...

I do think our current SRV is not the right vehicle for this type of combat.
We need a better armed and armoured combat vehicle.
The Scarab is just a light recon vehicle. I want a tank :).

Which was exactly what I was complaining about!

Nope, no fun at all. I can just sit about 800-900 meters from the base, hiding behind a slight hill, and empty my SRV's gun into it for (what feels like) 15 minutes. Eventually it's health is whittled down to 0%, but there is no sense of accomplishment.

If it's health was 5-10 times less, then I might consider actually engaging it in 'real' combat, and then might obtain some fun from it.

As it stands, I simply ignore the Goliath, and chase & kill the other respawning Skimmers, until I get my quota.

Exactly how I feel which is why I have decided to hop in my ship and use hit n run tactics which is too bad otherwise it might be fun to do some of these with your SRV.

If you can't have fun, make fun - yeah you can sit way out and plink away, but that's not fun. Get up out of there and actually engage with it. drive around in circles, firing away at it, only taking cover when you need to make repairs. Much more fun. Plink and slink is tedious. Take a little personal responsibility and make your own fun.
