Gonna be that guy and say.. "Nerf the Thargoids!!"

Ever since we got the toys to face our new biggest threat this Thread has been chocked with "Buff the thargoids". Which as a lover of challengers I understand completely , been trying all morning to rip a wing off one in a stock Icourier (well almost with a G5 thruster ;) ). in doing this it has awakened me to a somewhat valid point. what about the little guys of the game??

All the Kills I have seen so far have either 2 things in common. either;

-In a high 'tier' ship (cutters and corvettes so far). or

- in a squad and absolutely gangbang the thing, then turn around and say "it's too weak"

it seems the moment someone kills something it is "too weak" and "needs a buff", these almost half-cocky gestures are being thrown about without any consideration for other factors. like;

-All of these encounters have only been 1 of the basic ship (Cyclops) yet it holds it's own reasonably well against small squads and large ships (with battles lasting up to and over 20min) a single foe with that capability deserves some respect. not like most ships that serve as laser bait. :)

- keep in mind for all you guys who may have super death machines there are also players who don't... seems they miss out all together.

-all well and good if you have a squad of buddies around, but for those who like to do things personally they will be more pressed to do so.

- this is only the first basic ship, I have been interdicted by a bigger one with a different 'wing' type. so you WILL have your challenge soon I bet ;) also have the vid if anyone is interested. by it's profile at 400m I can guess it is about 1.5x bigger.

In conclusion, Ignore what I said in the title, Cyclops' don't need to be nerfed or buffed. but please show a little respect and consideration to other players who may not be as well off as you.

Best of luck! even if they aren't a challenge! ;)

Well, my wing of 2x FDLs, both with 4 AX missiles each, failed to kill one.

Didn't help that we wasted ammo on missing them completely. Lol

Curse you fixed weapons!

I consider myself a fairly good (poor fixed aiming aside) combat pilot. And I found the Cyclops variant difficult to gain any traction on. We only got 1 heart on two separate encounters.
My wingman died once, and was crippled by the yellow 'electroshock ray of doom' that our particular Thargoid enjoyed using on us.

All in all, we failed quite miserably to kill it.
Which in my book, is pretty much how i feel it needs to be.

If you can solo them in a paper iCourier, then they'll pose no challenge at all to anyone in a non-paper spaceship.
However, if you need 18 Corvettes to take one down, then that's just impractical. Lol

The current difficulty seems ok to me. Obviously better pilots are finding them easy though, but I assume these are the easy ones anyway. :D

It makes no sense to me to have people in starter ships be able to fight these things. Defeats the whole purpose of a new powerful enemy. So please a big no to everything you said.

And whilst I know I don't stand a chance currently even against the scout ships (did you see the picture of the crashed Thargoid vessel on Twitter today? Looks remarkably like the "traditional" Thargoid Invasion Craft from '84...) I am excited to know that there's even more challenge coming...

No. Just no. Like... anything less of a dropship i expect to get ripped to shreads by a thargoid. Anything else can try big no to everything you said

Heresy! How could you?! :D

In my opinion they could still use a little invulnerability overlord injection, so we can study them, without the trigger-happy subjects doing any harm. But i share your assumption, that this are the expendable pioneers of the scout-wing...

OP - choices have consequences and requirements.

To explore effectively, one doesn't choose a low jump range non RNG'd ship.

To bounty hunt effectively, one doesn't choose the Type 9.

To mine effectively, one doesn't choose an eagle.

To hunt thargoids effectively, one doesn't choose paper thin ships.

All things are possible in most ships - to do it effectively requires a little time and money - that's part of the game.

IMHO - The last thing the Thargoids need is a nerf.

The human NPCs need a buff however.
The 2.1 early AI was the best dogfighting I have ever had in a game. flying around in intense dogfights with the same class of ship leaving the battle damaged or dead.

I am not saying the game need to be rock hard , but at least have top tier NPCs of any race be the best the NPC can possibly be without using too many cheats

well as I remember from the old days you needed a Iron a*se ship ( sorry about the spelling it was a phrase from the elite novella back then Tripped the filter) to take the thargoids on Seems like thats the way it is now as I reacon it should be. Me Im a explorer so I will stick to waggleing wings, lights and any other way of comunicating I can think of in a ship with no radio/translator
There may be some easier Thargoids in their home system if they have one. Oddly I dont mind running from them anywhere as much as Pirates.

I understand where the OP is coming from to a point.
In solo it's nearly impossible to take on a Cyclops, not everyone has the big three.

On the other hand, we're only at the beginning and we don't know yet what other weapons etc. will show up.
If in due time Cyclopses become manageable for solo pilots other Thargoids might arise for the multiplayers or topnotch Vettes and Cutters.

It's still early in 2.4 let's give it some time.

If you want to contribute to the cause in your Courier, you can. Load up 3 AX missile launchers and provide supporting fire to someone in a big ship. You have lots of internals for HRP's, so you should be able to hang in a while, you just don't have the ordnance to solo it.

Or do what I'm planning to do - get a corrosion-resistant cargo rack and a research limpet controller and use your speed to snag Thargoid probes, samples, etc. and run like Hell. A Courier is one ship that has absolutely no trouble outrunning a Thargoid!

Oh no.. come we don't want to nerf them. Its about time we had something to challenge people. You dont have to fight them, and its all about co op and multi wings.
Its creating a brilliant amount of fun and we need them to be hard.

Personally we have been able to kicker back sides to quickly , but these are the small ones so far.

Good tough enemies mean players have more to tax them, which means less players shooting other players for a challenge. The NPCs need to made a little tougher also I think. Especially at your rating goes up.

No don't nerf them. Thargoids are supposed to be far more advanced than humans. Therefore they should be more difficult to destroy. Someone is a sidewinder ( for example, low end ship ) should not be able to destroy a 'goid - just too powerful.

I totally agree. Don't kill the game, people are working together more to beat them.... its great. And yes even in open

I was in a group of 8 last night and we fought two of them. We didn't have great coordination, so we got destroyed. I got sent to the rebuy screen twice (RIP 50 million credits. Ouch). I'm fine with it. I'm 100% okay with the Thargoids being hellishly difficult. Of course SDC killed one. They've got absurdly engineered ships, and we all know how good some of their pilots are.

I want to get a Thargoid kill. I really do. But I don't want it to be easy. The new multis for this week's CG look like they'll help a lot, tbh. I just hope that we get different sizes.

Here's an idea, how about we leave them for a while before judging? There's always going to be the people at the skill roof who want something buffed and people at the skill floor wanting something nerfed.

My personal experience is, it doesn't depend so much about engineered ships but, rather, faster ships with hull reinforcements. My anaconda with SLF, a-rated with nothing engineered, feels just a little too slow to effectively fight one solo. Although being a relatively newer player (playing since ps4 release) it could also be my skill/knowledge letting me down.
