Gonna get a lot of hate mail for this

This has been linked before, or at least I've seen it several times already. Although it is funny, and accurate in terms of what he shows of the "in-game footage" of mostly Supersnooze, it's also not a fair comparison from what I've played.

The dogfighting in the trailer doesn't occur at stations, and you don't get to experience it in external view like a movie, that is all true. However, he would have been better to use footage from intense RES, Conflict Zone, or Nav Beacon combat, which would have been a fairly similar experience from within the cockpit.

Let's be fair, the game has a thousand faults in gameplay, but one thing it does superbly well, and like no other, is the combat. :)

You thought this video would generate a serious debate about..... what, exactly?

Well this is what the devs advertised. Why didn't they advertise something that said, oh hey, here's a massive space sim that you can explore. Take your time. Oh and by the way, you can only see 32 other players in one huge system so it won't be that exciting if you want PvP. And if you want to dogfight in front of stations and do 180 degree manouvres like this, well, you can't really. But we'll show you this in a 'not game footage' trailer. But if we're being honest, it's a real, go slow, take your time galaxy, nothing at all like we're selling you in the trailer here.

I expect a backlash but I hope it starts a serious debate. I like debates. :)

You won't get any from me. Your vid shows us where the "Hype" is in hyperspace.

To be honest though, I have participated in a few fur balls that although not quite as dramatic as the trailer, were still pretty exhilarating.

If you go up against CODE, CONTRAIL, or ROA sometime, you might get a different perspective.

All said, I still enjoyed the humor.

You might take a look at some of these:

We could have a serious debate about whether those godawful overblown fake game promotions should be banned. If a game is any good then REAL clips of the game should sell it not complete fantasy bordering on a con.

I actually laughed, haven't done so in a long time. The comments a hilarious, so many fanboys blindly defending away.

Generally speaking I agree. However dogfighting to me isn't high-octane adrenaline pumping action as displayed. Its circling until you get a shot off and either out right killing or whittling down that hp.

No hate mail for me.. I found it all funny until he added footage of Arena Commander to the second video. I didn't really understand what that was trying to accomplish. He's not wrong though. Then again, I never saw all those trailers so I didn't fall into the hype they would have surely created had I watched them.

The reason I posted this thread and, I'm happy to see a lot of people supporting it, is because I remember the trailer, of two small ships, (maybe sidewinders?), scanning a huge battleship which appeared dead. Then the battleship came to life, along with another, and a huge battle ensued. Does anyone have a link to this clip? I'm not berating ED, really, but instead of powerplay, couldn't we have had this instead? The ability to scan huge, dead ships and then have the unpredictable happen around us? If anyone could post a link to this I'd be very grateful.

Well, I'm sure they want it to be as exciting as the trailers are, and there are times where it can be. I do think they are struggling with what ideas they want to implement first though and I don't think they will ever come out fast enough for anyone.

I get the feeling that you either haven't played the game or are not looking in the right places. I have been experiencing combat like that depicted in the trailer for weeks and have the bounties to show for it, just not next to a station. The game's pace is very much determined by your playstyle, although yes, there are unnecessarily time sink mechanics in some cases.

In this case, being unable to mini-hyperjump and drop in closer to a large planetary body with enough gravity for a lock within system, would help people with less gameplay hours in their daily life to get more action. The rest of the time, Supersnooze works great for roaming around a solar system for explorers, but for traders and other people looking to quickly ferry a route from A to B, it's a waste of precious gameplay hours spent making tiny joystick movements and watching a countdown timer to the magic 7 seconds and 75% window.
