Gonna play my last session of Elite today.

... in 2D that is 😆

VR should arrive soon today. Clickbaity title is clickbait :p

Any things I have to consider? Do I need additional software or is the Rift S plug and play?
Are there some vital steps like backup the keybinds or some things?
Help me, I'm a noob regarding VR.

It's a transformative experience! Enjoy :D

You might wanna have your keyboard nearby, for the galaxy map occasionally (and for chat if you're a sociable fellow). What controller are you using?

@Bigmaec

Rift S just needs a reasonable graphics card with a display port, USB3.0 (or 3.1 if you are lucky) the rather nice Oculus Software (ensure you are in the PTC - in the Beta tab) and a reasonable source of light when it gets dark...

If you have any problems the Oculus forum is much less toxic than this one... I'd also be pleased to assist if you need any remote assistance.

...your senses are going to love you!

Have lots of fun and "Awe"'s in the next few...days? Weeks? Maybe Months? ;)(y)
It took me two years to finally give up my impulse control and upgrade, so I guess I'm gonna
play another two years now. Second title I'm looking forward in VR is Subnautica, I already finished that one
in 2D so I won't propably get a heart attack from certain things but still I bet this will look fantastic.

You won't be "shocked" by Elite...unless you jump right THROUGH a Star just to stop RIGHT IN FRONT another...THAT is....breathtaking? :sneaky:

I started with a Rift and a 5+ year old PC build with a 980Ti, you got no worries there :)

You should be fine to start on VR Ultra preset, then see what you can turn up (if you want). I would recommend putting galaxy map to high, and HMD quality all the way up, right from the start. And if it doesn't harm performance, max out jet cones and volumetric effects too.

Controls-wise just try to get everything on your HOTAS so you don't have to lift your headset to do anything. If you had buttons bound to open the target panel, comms panel, etc. you can use those for something else now, you won't need them any more (you can open those panels just by looking at 'em) :)

I like the concept of VR and in small doses at conventions it is fine. But my blind right eye means it would not be comfortable for extended use in my case. Fortunately head tracking is cheap.

Maybe one day I'll save up for an ultrawide monitor. Not the same thing, but you know.

Get comfortable with the touch controllers. Even with a Hotas, you'll soon need them to recenter your view, display the desktop, copy paste stuff and use the virtual keyboard. Remember you can pin the windows desktop so it always stays up front.

Also, get EDProfiler. http://www.drkaii.com/tools/edprofiler/

Never gone through this whole "virtual keyboard"-topic. Do you mind giving a good source/tutorial to study?

P.S.: Have the "Old" Rift. ;)

ED in VR is excellent, once I tried it there's no way I'd go back to a monitor (except for selling a lot of exploration data). It really brings out the scale of the game.

As mentioned above, VoiceAttack is a very useful utility since using a keyboard (and most of the buttons on the base of the T16000 stick) is very hit and miss. At least it is for me. :)

A friendly and helpful VR sub-forum here too.
