Well, assuming it survives passing the ring-plane, it has 22 total orbits of good science to do before it dies.

Thursday 07:00 UTC [game time] it should start transmitting data back, only then will they know if it has survived. They have oriented the satellite to use the large dish antenna as a shield so as to give some protection - hence it is out of contact until then.
