Good Cobra Weapons Loadout?

Cant go wrong with a pair of 37k Pulse lasers up front and 14 k multi cannons in the wings. All gimballed (bu that personal taste). I made 300k in bounties in an hour with that lot.

I've found that 2x C1 Beam Lasers (Gimballed) and 2x C2 Multicannons (Gimballed) work quite well.

That setup shreds smaller ships, takes down NPC Cobras and Asps with ease, and can take down Imperial Couriers and Pythons given a bit of time.

I'll probably be experimenting with C2 cannons or missile launchers at some point to see how they fare.

Currently I have beams on top and multi-cannons on the wings - not sure its ideal as beams dont seem as good as pulse on the hull (and Im too tight to use too much multicannon ammo if I can avoid it!), but the beams do bring the shields down fast if you have a good power dsitributor thingie behind them

The half million beamers for sure ( still packing the E.1 ones until I get the cash ).

Ran it a while with the pair of fixed beamers and a pair of dumb missile launchers. Very good.

Multi cannons are excellent but recently changed and testing the Cannons and Rail Guns. So far Cannons are impressively random at medium distance and comparable to dumb missiles at close. Rails seems... underpar and ammo is sort of expensive.

But I suggest you spend first A LOT into all the internals. Cobra top guns are some power hungry modules and generate heat like mad.

I use one fixed and one gimballed beam in the C1 slots. I have no problem lining up shots, but the spread on two fixed beams in the C1 slots was just too great. I find the one fixed and one gimballed works quite well. Multicannons in the C2 of course.

yes viper is superior but a bit more expensive

The Viper is cheaper - and in my opinion - inferior to the Cobra. With a Viper you get a stronger shield, weaker hull, less maneuverability and slightly faster top end speed. The weapon convergence is a bit better for the weapons under the ship though. Oh, and you can carry less shield cells/cargo in a Viper.

I was told beam lasers were better, last night I bough 2 57K gimballed beam lasers... why would pulse be better? Are they stronger vs shields or more power efficient?

Pretty much this ^^

With smuggling as a sideshow I cannot abide the Cobra but the Viper surely looks a sweet interceptor albeit fragile. Seems like a great ship to learn combat for good.

I have fixed beam lasers set up on the left side on my cobra so they both hit in roughly the same place. Gimballed multi cannons on the right. Might not be the best setup but I get very bored if I dont' have to do some of the aiming myself

I have run every weapon possible on the cobra, including plasma acc., and yours is the build I chose for bounty hunting. It's by far, the best, and you don't have to be particularly good at aiming. If you encounter an Anaconda, target the power plant... the 2 C2 Gimballed MC will shred it long before the hull is at 0%.

For player bounties, 2 C2 Railguns, and 2 C1 multi gimballed... the rail guns will surprise them, and pop their shileds before they can hit shield cells... but you have to be good at aiming... the opposite of the build above.

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread but couldn't see one for it, I'm ready to buy a cobra but can't find one what system type are they usually for sale in, thanks in advance

Regarding Viper/Cobra for pure combat: I prefer the Viper because of the hard point positioning and the bang for the buck value of it (its about 1/3 as expensive as the Cobra, which has features superfluous to someone looking for pure combat). However, I should say that I'm a fairly well off trader, so I can afford to have more than one ship. If this is going to be your only vessel in the galaxy, you are probably best off going with the Cobra. I've used both, and after having established myself financially, I chose the Viper as pure combat vessel for reasons that I'll try to explain clearly:

When outfitting weapons, I prefer to use fixed thermal and gimballed kinetic, and also prefer to use my C2 slots for kinetic, since shields tend to be easier to take down because the target isn't going into evasive action like they do when the shields drop (harder to hit them at that point, so I use the gimballed assistance). Also, shields come back, hull doesn't, so I want my focus to be on killing the target as soon as possible in between shield charges. The reason I'm intent on having at least some fixed weapons is you never know what kind of gadgets the enemy is going to have, such as Chaff countermeasures which render gimballed weapons useless. Also gimballed are inaccurate at longer ranges. It is good to have at least one fixed weapon type so you are always able to fire SOMETHING at your target.

In the case of the Cobra, the bottom hard points are far apart, so these tend to need to be gimballed since firing fixed will be innacurate. The problem wtih this is they are the C1 slots, so I can't put my gimballed C2 kinetic weapons there (multi-cannon, cannon, etc.). I ended up having to live with C2 fixed lasers on top (reticules are centered for top hardpoints, allowing accurate fixed fire), and C1 gimballed cannons on the bottom. The Viper does not have this conundrum, as all hardpoints are well centered, and facilitate accurate fixed fire.

The Viper however does lack power capacity, with only 12MW with A-rated power plant.

So, in the end, my reasoning may come down to personal preference, but I've spent a good amount of time fighting since I started off as a bounty hunter before giving up and trading for money. That said, I do not count myself among the expert fighters in the universe, I still Use Flight Assist to my shame.... (I don't have HOTAS, it's quite hard to control 6 directions of movement with an xbox controller)

Why not 2x C2 Beam lasers? Are they worth it?

Now Im confused. I was under the impression that for example with gimballed multicannons of class 1 there was only one grade. I didnt think grades came into account with weapons.
I say this because I've only found G1 multicannons in my travels through 30 odd systems.
I found a post somewhere where they basically said that when it came to weapons the grade of the weapon was always the same, as a result I stopped looking. Do C/B/A grade 1 multicannons exist then? same for pulse lasers?
