Newcomer / Intro Good Earnings Opportunity for Newbs

CMDR John Plays Games made a suggestion in the main section, which at first seemed nothing new, bu I went to innestigate anyway. At first it didn't seem like anything special, but then I spotted something.

One of the best ways to make money in the game is doing pirate massacre missions, but it's not really something for beginners because you need an engineered ship to get as much as you can get from mining platinum; however, the sytem John mentioned has a low resource extraction site in planet 5, which means that a newb can make the same sort of money or maybe even more than an experienced player in the Haz RES. Even the starter Sidewinder would work because there are plenty of police to help you along the way.

The only thing you need to do is get to Ngalinn, which is a fair way out, so you need at least an A-rated FSD and a fuel scoop to get there. Basically, you load up with PIRATE massacre missions at the station then jump 3 LY to Mainani, fly out to the low RES at planet 5 and help yourelf to bucket loads of cash. Using a standard Vulture, I just got bout 280 mil in 1hr and 12 minutes, which included the time to get the missions and fly back and cash-in. The target ships barely fight back. I didn't need any help from the police at all. I killed them so quick that the police didn't get a chance.

If you're an absolute beginner, you can use the Sidewinder, next ship up would be a Diamondback Scout, then Vulture, then FDL. You could use any ship with engineering, but this post is aimed at newbs. If you don't know much about Combat or RES bounty farming, it might be worth watching my beginners combat series of vids:

When you arrive at the low RES, if you see any "wanted" ships bigger than an Asp, relog until it's only small ships. That way they're quicker to kill and more frequent.

When you first arrive at the station in Ngalinn, the missions don't pay much and you'll be lucky to get 50 mil from your first trip, but after a few trips you'll see the 41 mil missions for killing 30 pirates. There are about 5 of the factions that give the missions, though some are on and off. The mission board partially refreshes every 10 minutes. and it was taking me about an hour to load up with 400 mil worth of missions for a trip, but now that I have rep with all factions I can get 200 mil worth of missions from the first listing. Note that some of the missions have the wing marker on them. You get half the credits per pirate killed from them, so take as many non-wing ones as you can. Two of the factions only offer wing ones, two have some of each and the other one has mainly wing and sometimes some non-wing ones. You need to keep the number of pirates to kill balanced from the different factions. You'll kill about 40 to 60 an hour, so I normally go for 120 max from each faction for 2 to 3 hrs of killing, but it might be more efficient to limit it to 60.

To pad your cr-earning pleasure, CMDRs: Stop and smell the roses! That is to say, on your journey out there and back (wherever that may be), don't forget to at least 'honk' systems and - for more exploration credit - use your FSS* to scan them. It's included on your ships and it will earn you some exploration earnings as well as exploration rank when you sell the cartographic data (at pretty much any station). **

EDIT:
You'll find that the factions in Ngalinn offer many courier missions to the Mainani System. The Mainani System has only a single station, so these missions all are to be delivered there, as you'll see in the mission descriptions. These are a great way to increase your Rep with those factions pretty quickly, so you can start getting better payouts for those pirate-hit missions, as described in the OP. Ships with little or no cargo space are great for these types of missions because no cargo space is required. Be aware that you may get an NPC after you occasionally if you stack a bunch of these. That's life in E: D.

Happy travels, CMDRs!

* FSS = Full System Scanner.
** data won't be sell-able for a given system unless you're 20 or more LY away from it.
