Good Job FD

I think it's important to give positive feedback when something you don't like gets fixed, even just a little bit. Even if my incessant ranting on the topic had no effect at all, and this set of CGs was planned well in advance, when you get given (partially) exactly what you asked for you have to show appreciation, especially when it's on the coattails of some poor work (i.e every AEGIS CG to-date)

The new CGs finally embrace the new 2.4 content fully, which is what should've been going on for all the CGs related to 2.4. In addition to that, they haven't spoiled the search and rescue CG with ridiculous vanilla-cargo requirements. FD could've easily trashed the CG by adding basic/advanced medicines or some other vanilla cargo commodity, because bad-game-design-RP-hat on "Surely all those rescued people need medical attention?", but they didn't. It's nothing but salvage, which is great for the contributions value people who collect escape pods and the like. I'm really hoping this is a sign that FD realise mixing the collection of Thargoid Tissue Samples along with the collection of basic market commodities was a terrible choice, but maybe we're too far down the path to correct that. We've already seen people will happily go fetch Thargoid cargo for large payouts, and they'd do it just to get worthwhile contribution to a CG too, so hopefully we'll eventually get that CG to ship nothing but corrosive cargoes.

Either way, good job FD. I'm off to get my rescue ship geared up and actually dp pne of these CGs for once.

Oooh, a rescue CG.

I like those, especially if there's something to defend the rescue ships from.

The best CGs were the bounty hunting and salvage CGs.

Yes, it's been quite exciting .... there are NHSS's and Distress Calls, both with Thargoids and materials to collect before they get to them.

I realize to work the "collect black boxes, escape pods, etc" properly should require co-operation from participants in the other CG. They can fight the Thargoids and reap rewards from that side of things, and while the aliens are being kept busy, we can sneak in and scoop the scoopables.

But well done FD, you have listened [yesnod]

They have also redesigned the rewards structure into deciles ..... top 40%, 50%, 60% etc. which is a good move.

Its a fun set of CGs, and the rescue one can be done by people in the tiniest ships will earning a pretty good penny. Its inclusive, shows what we have so far and is fun, so well done. Also seems a good way to 'round off' what we have so far and start the next phase. :)

Community Goal: Rescue Operation in the Pleiades

For convenience, here's the Galnet article...

Cooper Research Associates have launched a rescue operation to recover personal effects, data and people from Thargoid attack sites in the Pleiades Nebula.

The organisation has promised to reward pilots who deliver occupied escape pods, damaged escape pods, black boxes and personal effects to the search-and-rescue contact at The Oracle in the Pleiades Sector IR-W d1-55 system.

A spokesperson for Cooper Research Associates released a brief statement:

“Eyewitnesses have reported that Thargoid vessels are taking occupied escape pods from ships they have attacked. It is therefore essential that we recover any and all individuals from these attack sites before they can be similarly abducted.”

The operation begins on the 2nd of November 3303 and will run for one week. If the final target is met earlier than planned, the campaign will end immediately.

Nice. :)

Yeah, if I wasn't so far away from the Pleiades, I'd definitely join in with this one. Sadly I suspect that, once I got there, it'd all be over :p.

Yes, I agree.

It is my hope that this progression of story leads to motivate me to get involved. So far the Thargoids are just this thing happening in the Pleiades and I felt more like a tourist when I went out there to take a look.

Just to expand a bit more on why this is a good CG.

- There's bountiful USS where you can get a pod or black box, swiped from under the nose of a Thargoid without having to open fire. Fun, risky, and non-hostile (if you want hostile, the combat CG is around the corner)
- There's lots of fixed POI with pods and other relevant salvage around the Pleiades like this one. You can plot a "tour" of the sites, and stop at the spawning USS for NHSS or Distress Calls in between and almost guarantee getting relevant salvage.
- Compared to past salvage CGs, owing to the bountiful amount of USS you can get this stuff and how quickly they spawn, you don't need to sit around relogging. The time it takes to do that to get another two or three pods, you can easily find another site. It's much more fun than the log off/on cycle.
- Uses the new Search and Rescue contact.

This CG is a great example of using the games assets in a way that *makes sense* for a storyline progression using CGs*

* This is not a claim that CGs are the best way to progress the story... it's just the one FD are using, and there's good ways and bad ways to do it, and this is one of the good ways.

I think most important part is that CGs are fun when involved activities are fun. While back stories of previous CGs have been well written, most of them have boiled down to hauling cargo to station A while avoiding griefers. In Solo this hasn't been consistently followed by let's say NPC pirate activity. It just does not gel together so well.

So it is fun activity, in story CG, it feels amazing because it is well designed this time. While being far away I am seriously tempted to take trip here.
