Good place to go?

Just started and feel a bit lonely, Im trading in a route but there are not outfitters or shipyards on them, is there a popular place or something which ppl go and is more populated or al least more technology advanced in order to upgrade my ship? I want to start mining, exploring, etc, for money ofc.

Try heading for Sol or maybe Lave for more people (some may be fast, well armed and not be your friends) and have a look for high-tech or industrial worlds for more kit and ships. The galaxy map options can be changed to show systems by economy. Zoom out a bit and then select-deselect the type you want a few times so they blink on and off for you.

Get out, explore a bit, see what the universe has to offer... Try visiting a few systems, get a feel for their economies, what they sell, what they want, the missions they have, their allegiances. Scan every unexplored system you jump into. Pay attention to systems with more than one station - sometimes they have different economies and you can pick up some moolah running commodities intra-system and doing missions too. Upgrade your power distributor, your power plant, first. Then build up some money for better FSD and the galaxy will be your oyster.

If you fancy some pew-pew, head for nav beacons. It'll probably be an eye opener and a steep learning curve initially, but if you just have a stock ship - meh. Free go around. Enjoy!

The thing is if you have never played any of the past iterations of this game, it all feels a bit daunting and a bit whut? huh? but stick with it and tootle around with the mindset that you're learning as you go and there are no goals to achieve. You're out in the big black and there's a lot of stuff to do - in the beginning (us beta backers are a bit bored, by and large!) You just can't do it all yet.

I'm a Frontier and First Encounters vet so I'm fine with just jumping around everywhere until I find the sweet spot. Think I found it at the mo - CD-58 16 is a good region to be in, I'm an Imperial dog.

;)

And, welcome Commander!

Hell and back. By then the game will be released and the Glorious Empire and those dastardly feds will be partying.

Previous poster is right. Get some cash together, go out and see what systems are around. Study the galactic map for a while to see if there is anywhere that piques your interest. Try out different roles like exploring or mining. Test your prowess by taking on a few interdictoring NPC's. And most of all, go out there and enjoy yourselves!

Use the tools on the galactic map to find a High Tech system with a large population, then head there. You might have to make 20-30 jumps and stripping your ship down to add jump range and adding a fuel scoop will be a good idea (refuel whenever possible and even make the odd side trip to keep the tanks topped up) stop at stations now and then just in case you run out of fuel and self destruct then you wont have yo make the whole trip again. Once you get there hopefully there will be a good selection of parts for outfitting. You can then explore the near by systems and scan all the planets to earn some credits and then start trading/doing missions for the local cluster. You should end up with some good local rep and earn enough to upgrade you ship with a detail surface scanner then you can go find some nice deposits and mine in a nice quiet system. Once you have a bigger better ship you can leave and head out but keep your old ship there so you can always return if you want to get away or hit hard times and need to rebuild you cash.
