Good Robot is a recently released indie 2D Shoot'em Up/Rogue-lite (don't look at me like that, I did not make up these genre descriptions
). It was made by Shamus Young, who is maybe known to some here as a gaming blogger, and Pyrodactyl, makers of Unrest.
There is also a dev blog series showing the game from its very early inceptions, which I found highly entertaining to read.
Anyway, I have the game and like it very much, this is not my usual genre but this here manages to avoid many of the usual pitfalls that I personally find annoying, and gives the player lots of freedom to choose between weapons and upgrades. As a bonus, though not directly integrated with the Steam Workshop, it has good modding support.
