You can save some money by down grading stuff. You don't need guns outside of "civilised space". You can dump the shields and use an A2 powerplant. This build gives a 33 ly jump range.

I have a diamondback explorer and I love it. I kitted it out with a top of the line fuel scoop as this baby runs a little hot. I can get a half tank of fuel before it reached 70% of temp. a 20 ly jump capability with only minor mods... scanners of course, default weapons and shields. update engines and distributor and I have had no problems with dead zones. It is skittish around stations so I have a docking computer installed.

This is the DBE Setup Im using currently. Works well. Thanks for the advice on reactor housing.
