Dayuan Platform, Navajoar
Sui Guei
Pices
Cupis
Premoten

That little cluster of stars is a hotbed right now. Start at Dayuan. Look for C&S Mining and Labour of Pices.

Lots of skimmer missions.

Lots of little terrorist factions in this area giving generator missions and the like.

Shipyard in Cupis (Boodt, I think) is a good base of operations. Garrat station in Frey about 20-30ly has excellent small/medium outfitting.

thaks so much.

the skimmer missions if we all have one is it only the person who gets the last shot in that gets the "kill" for the mission oe if we all get a shot off will we all get the kill?

thanks

That, I don't know, as I've only ever done them solo. I also generally do them from the air, unless there is a data point for me to scan or some cans for me to pick up.

Aside from mining, I haven't done much wing flying. Let me know how it works out, if you don't mind?

Good luck, CMDR o7 :)

I was thinking about it. When I do these from the air, I use dumbfires as their blast radius allows me to pop two or three skimmers in one go.

If you're pulling skimmer missions with your wingmates, you might want someone to pull CAS for you. Not that skimmers are particularly hard to kill with the SRV, but it might look really ' cool to be on the ground and to watch those missiles come streaming in :)

I've thought about trying out frag cannons, too, but don't have any experience with them.

i will feed back however it wont be for a week i doubt.
we did manage 1 power down the generator mission which we all had, and as soon as i shot it, all parties got the mission complete so that worked well.

however then our final player joined and he had not set up his SRV. on trying to talk him through it i accidentally fired a single stray shot at a generator.

all hell broke loose with at least 2 maybe 3 ships going after me, I escaped in my SRV back to my ship however had my engines taken out before leaving masslock and was sent to the insurance screen

disaster........... but a HELL of a lot of fun :D (and as i was in the DB scout it only cost me 250k)

by the time this was all done the little lad decided enough was enough and i had to log off to look after him.

Sounds like it was a blast! Thanks for the update :)

so it took a while but... just to confirm.
skimmers work exactly like ships. for a mission, every player needs to get a shot on each skimmer for them to count for a mission, however so long as you do that each skimmer can add to everyones kill skimmer missions.

PS i have found it easier/faster/more fun that once i have found 1 blue point of interest, i land and send my ship away.

i then take out the skimmers and use my SRV scanner to drive to other POIS (a horizontal line at the bottom of your scanner is minerals and can ignore, lines which are a the top of your scanner or vertical lines which cover the entire length of your scanner (often thin and faint if at the edge of your range) are worth looking at IME.

if anyone has hints on how to spot the POIS from your ship please put your thoughts here.... i am in VR which gives me superb peripheral vision but unless i am v lucky, or it is a brightly lit mining area, it is rare for me to spot the ground POIS from the air.

PPS now i am allied with the factions, i am getting 3 million credit missions for taking out 6-8 skimmers.

out side of big ship trading or stacking long range missions this is as good a money maker as anything so far i have come accross imo.

Thanks for the update, Mike.

I do them both ways, both from the ground and air. Many times if I see a data point or some cans to steal, I'll do the same and go to ground. Often times I do them from the air because I like the immersion of being that nameless, faceless gunship that just pops up on the horizon and starts raining rockets down own people's parades :) I also like having to run from air patrols.

Spotting POIs from your ship can be tricky. Yeah, if it's a research or mining site, the lights and the objects can be easy to see. If it's just a downed ship or a nav beacon, you often have to look for the "little black dot", which can be tough to do from the air. That's why when I run air missions, unless I get a visual on the POI straight away, I move on and find another that is more easily detectable. Often times, the main installation will have two or three small POIs within one or two km of it.

It's also important to note that the actual POI doesn't necessarily spawn the moment the circle appears. This is evidenced by the fact that sometimes what should be visible from "a mile away" will appear right in front of you. The easiest way I find to spot the actual POI is as follows (this is from my DBS gunship, which has a good FOV):
  1. Start with zoomed out sensors (Hit PgUp repeatedly. Holding it won't do.)
  2. Cruise at 2km altitude until you see a circle appear at the edge of your sensors.
  3. Line up to fly straight through the center of the circle
  4. At the circle's edge, drop your speed to about 100km/h, and pitch down to about -30 degrees
  5. Fly like a chopper... use upward thrust "R" to maintain both altitude and forward momentum. Try to keep yourself between 1.5km (where the circle disappears) and 1.8km (for easier visibility, i.e. the higher you go, the more difficult it is to spot objects). Use side thrusters to maintain your position on the center-line of the circle (using the mouse to "roll" only screws it up, I find).

As you cruise through the center of the circle in this way, visually scan the ground for the POIs. At 1.7km, you shouldn't see "rocks", so any "black dot" will likely be the POI. Of course, things like research facilities will show up big and recognizable (and, like I said, sometimes will spawn right in front of you). Many times, the POI will appear in your forward FOV.

If I pass through the circle and don't find the POI, then I move on to the next one. No point wasting time, flying in circles.

Regarding money -- yeah, doing these mission repeatedly in a specific combat zone made me so rich that in small/medium builds I figuratively have infinite lives. Great mission to grind for cash (and rank!), if you can find a consistent stream.

Glad you had fun, and hope all of this helps. Good luck!

Here's an example of how close you can be before a POI spawns. Since sites like these are highly visible, they are what I target (and they don't always spawn skimmers, but usually do). In regards to the wreckage and similar POIs, yeah, those can be a downright pain to spot from the air (take one of those little black dots from the POI and omit everything else... that is what they would look like from this distance. The color of the surface can make a big difference in spotting those from the air).
