Goodbye Clipper: Hello old Friend

It's great for undermining. I also love using it for planetary landing, because of the high top speed and boost. Plus, it looks like a Klingon battle cruiser.

I've been thinking about using it as a planetary lander. Might actually be the ideal ship for that. I haven't done too much planet-side stuff yet, but I think you may be on to something.

+1

I own an FDL, FAS, and Clipper and Clipper is still the best of the three to use for undermining. Great speed and good firepower, enough internals to be able to fuel scoop and interdict well, and can go to the other side of the bubble without it being a pain. I would also take a Clipper over the Python into combat as the Python is too slow and clumsy for my tastes.

Plus there is something about the Clipper that I just like flying it. It is like an exotic car.

So what is the clipper good for? A stepping stone ship to a python for trading?

Well, of course... like the Python is a stepping stone to the Anaconda and the Anaconda is a stepping stone to the Cutter, and one day the Cutter will probably be demoted to a stepping stone to the Panther Clipper. As far as trading goes, all ships are just stepping stones, except the largest/most profitable one. The Clipper is an exceptionally good stepping stone, though, highly preferrable over the T-7 :)

So PvP? is that the only thing that the clipper shines in? and only cause its the straight line fastest ship outside the Cobra?

It's especially good for piracy, due to being able to catch up with almost everything and still having decent firepower and internals for some cargo racks and limpets. I'm also still using it for bounty hunting and undermining, though, mostly because my FAS is optimized for PvP and stealth builds are pointless for PvE :)

It's one of the few ships, which remains fun and effective even when you own "better" ships.

Clipper lives true to it's classification as a heavy multipurpose ship.

Good for trading, mining, smuggling, and combat, both pve and pvp.

In pvp Clippers have terrible dps, far worse than FAS or FDL, but they make up for it with extremely fast speed, good turning, and powerful rams. Clippers are no longer viable with shield builds, but with HRP you can get to over 3000 armor, far more than a hull tanking FAS.

I loved my Clipper, was my favourite ship. But then Horizons came, and the buff to the FDL made the Clipper into a big clunky target drone. In PVP the Clipper just can't compete anymore. The FDL is tougher, tankier, punches better and is nearly as fast. For Hull Tanking, the Clipper do a decent enough job, but why bother when the FAS does it much better - and have the same weapons-layout only much better positioning of the hardpoints?! Oh, and is nearly as fast.

The Clipper do have speed, but now that is all it got. In every other respect (in PVP), it is inferior to the FDL and FAS.

As for the Python, the SCB heat issues have put quite a handicap on the ship. To tank effectively, one need give up a couple of Shield Boosters in order to make room for Heat-Sinks. Which means if the Python get focused, it'll lose shields and die before it can get away.

Yep, Clipper is falling out of PvP meta, I can confirm this. Other than a trolling build, it really doesn't have a place in serious PvP anymore.
