Got an Oculus Rift-here are my day 1 impressions

Not too long ago, I posted about accessing vr on a budget. Fortunately, i got a very good deal on the rift and it came shortly after I bought it. I was pretty excited to say the least and watched plenty of videos to hype myself up.

I was not disappointed. I spent a whole 15 minutes in the oculus vr menu just looking around. I was blown away by how much it felt like I was there despite the rather unpleasant resolution of the menu. Now, the only natural thing to do was boot up elite with edprofiler, crank up the graphics and hit play. I grinned so hard at the scarab and eagle in the hanger; everything was massive, indescribable unless youve seen it in VR too. The scale of everything just made me feel like I was there and my bedroom transformed into my Anacondas cockpit (which is huge). If there's one thing i got from this, its the appreciation of scale in elite.

After looking around the station for a while, I headed to a nearby thargoid base I've been scouting around and damn, just approaching the planet made me squeel. It was fantastic, i fully appreciate this game now after 100s of hours l. Well worth what I paid for, no doubt about it. Going to try out my srv and fighters around the base next time I log in, so I can't wait. Resolution wasn't even an issue here, and everything was reasonably clear!

Tried war thunder Vr and thought it was great, just pulling of all kinds of manoeuvres in simulator mode, but the resolution was a big issue here so I will have to do some adjusting. Nonetheless, I felt like a pilot and that's what matters.

Now, I never felt any motion sickness in these games which from what ive heard is rare but vrchat made mee feel sickly in 15 minutes. I'd put it down to the body disconnect but I'd get used to it I'm sure. If you're on the fence about VR, the oculus and vive are great, their issues seem totally outweighed by them placing you in the game, in 3d space. If the resolution may be an issue for you, perhaps wait for the vive pro but super sampling helped a tonne in ED. If you gave me a top of the line 4k monitor to play elite, I'd turn it down for a VR set without question.

If anyone's got tips and tricks for optimising VR visuals etc, specifically for the rift, please share :) It would make a great experience even better.
