Today I was flying, in Open as always, with my fully Engineered, +1 billion worth PvP outfitted shield tank Cutter, when I suddenly got interdicted.
The moment I saw another commander from the pilots federation, in a Fer de Lance, trying to get me out of super cruise, my nerves and adrenaline rushed as no NPC pilot could dream of.
I quickly submitted and deployed hard-points, but I was already getting shot...
I don't know for sure, since you know, everything in a fight happens so fast, but my attacker was in a well engineered Fer de Lance with (I guess) frag cannons as main weapons (I know it from the many points of impact that were shown on my holo-ship).
Having had to run in the past against well armed pilots in Open, my ship was now well prepared, and so was I.
The ship has been fully A-graded, combat equipped, fully G5 Engineered and the load-out (which I'll keep for me, should anyone use that information against me) is the result of months of research and trial & error testing.
Despite the nerves, I kept calmed and did the right things in the right moment. 4 pips to systems (for my shield to have full power) and two pips to weapons (which is enough to fire my energy weapons indefinitely).
The dance started and I quickly saw the guy was not joking. He was very aggressive and agile, and did not waste even the time to use the coms to say something...
I tried to keep him in sight, but was no easy, even though my engineered turrets were tracking him good.
At first the combat seemed even, and we were loosing shields more less at the same pace, but it quickly became apparent that my shields were way more powerful. He started drooping SCBs and I adopted the reverse flight technic to be able to track him better (I know some of you won't approve, but I had to use all the tactics to my advantage).
I fired some SCB too as I was getting close to my second ring. Slowly, my enemy started to lose shields way past the second ring. I guess he was now out of SCB. I kept firing with thermal weapons and changed the tactic to forward thrust.
I think the attacker made some mistakes. For example, getting too close of my ship, too fast, so that both ships would collide (never try to collide against a Cutter...). The last collision was strong and, as I managed to end his shields just the moment before, the hull of the Fer de Lance suddenly fell to 54%.
I was going to enjoy the last breaths of my attacker, when he suddenly disappeared. I looked the contacts and through the windshield, but he was not there... out... missing...
There was no wake and I got no warning of SCB ignition, so I conclude he combat logged...
It was a shame not being able to end him as he deserved, but I was happy, since all my effort on building a proficient PvP combat ship has paid off.
As for the attacker, if you read this, it was a good fight, but next time be prepared to stand until the end, even if it doesn't end as you expected or desired. Or, at least, scape if you can (my Cutter is real fast), but legally and inside the game mechanics...
Last, but not least, if you see a yellow Cutter (like a big Asian killer wasp), just keep out of her way... [yesnod]
Thanks for reading and fly safe, fellow commanders...
